Helping Kenyan Farmers Grow More-The ProNutiva Maize Program
Imagine trying to grow enough food when the rain's unpredictable, bugs are everywhere, and everything costs more. That's the reality for many Kenyan maize farmers. Maize is life there, and when crops fail, it's a big deal. That's when UPL jumped in with the ProNutiva Maize Program. Think of it as giving farmers a helping hand. We're combining regular crop protection with these really smart, natural methods. It's all about tackling those pests and weeds, keeping the soil in good shape, and getting a better harvest.
We didn't just drop off products, though. We went out to places like Kitale and Eldoret, working alongside over a thousand farmers. We held meetings, ran training sessions, and showed folks how to use the new methods. And honestly, we were amazed by the results. Farmers using the ProNutiva program? We saw them harvest about 810 kilos more maize per acre – that's a 30% jump! It really showed us the impact we could make. Plus, they made an extra Ksh. 38,100, which is a big deal. Nobert Kimeli, one of the farmers, put it best: he went from 20 bags an acre to 33. That's real change. UPL's helping these farmers not just survive, but thrive, and that's good news for everyone.
