By targeting the right legal keywords, your law firm can climb in the search rankings and ensure your services are easily found by those actively looking for them.

As a marketer for law firms and specialising in search engine optimisation, I know the types of keywords required to rank.

Better yet, I'm happy to share them with you, as well as practical tips to help your firm stand out and attract more clients.

Let’s take a look at the top ranking legal keywords to boost your SEO for lawyers.

What’s the SEO approach for a law firm?

SEO for lawyers focuses on ranking for local and city-based legal keywords. It includes several key components, including:

  • Setting up your local Google Business/Maps Profile
  • Targeting legal-specific keywords on service pages
  • Improving website structure
  • Building authoritative backlinks

You can also highlight expertise through content marketing, like publishing blogs and FAQs.

So, what can you do with this keyword data?

Browsing through the table, I can see that most of the keywords are very specific and related to a specific legal area.

  • ‘lawyer for personal injury’
  • ‘lawyer for car accident’
  • ‘lawyer for wrongful termination’

You could create dedicated service pages for each of these legal areas.

This means on your websites you’ll have a page titled ‘Lawyers for Personal Injury’ or ‘Personal Injury Lawyer’. You would then proceed to:

  • Include this keyword and variations of it naturally in page titles, headings, and meta descriptions.
  • Publish URLs that are SEO-friendly e.g. yourwebsite.com/personal-injury-lawyer.
  • Include a FAQ section towards the bottom of the page, covering lots of different questions about personal injury and the law, and how you help.

You can repeat this process for any other relevant keywords.

Example of good SEO

Here is a good example of a well-optimised legal services page. It is from Randle & Taylor Barristers and Solicitors, a leading law firm in Adelaide, Australia.

Their page ‘property lawyer Adelaide’ shows up in page one of Google for this same keyword.

Here is what this page gets right.

Page title (SEO title)

  • It’s under 60 characters to show up properly in the search engine results page.
  • The primary keyword is used naturally and placed first in the SEO title: Property Lawyers Adelaide | 50+ Years Experience

Meta description

  • It should be around 100 - 120 characters.
  • Include the keyword organically and add a clear call to action (CTA) or something unique about the business, to generate interest.

H1 heading (main page heading)

  • Use the main keyword ‘Property Lawyers Adelaide’
  • You can add more variety to secondary H2 headings, but it's important to include the keyword in the single H1 heading.

Subheadings (H2, H3)

  • Use variations of the keyword in H2s and H3s naturally.
  • Examples include:
    • Why Choose Our Property Lawyers in Adelaide?
    • Property Law Services We Offer
    • FAQs About Property Law in Adelaide
    • How Our Property Lawyers Can Help You
    • Property Disputes & Legal Support

Page content & keyword placement

  • Naturally include the keyword within the first 100 words.
  • Write informative and engaging content about property law services.
  • Use related keywords, such as:
    • real estate lawyer Adelaide
    • property dispute lawyer
    • conveyancing lawyer
    • buying or selling property legal advice
  • Don’t over publish (or stuff) keywords throughout your content. This will not work. Instead, your site could be penalised by search engines.

When it comes to suburb or city keyword variations, simply swap these examples out with your suburb or city name.

With these tips in place, you’ll be well on your way to improving your legal SEO.

From my experience, by following these steps, your law firm can transform keyword insights into a website that ranks higher, attracts more clients, and builds trust with your audience.

Key Takeaways

  • Create dedicated pages for each legal service using high-volume keywords.
  • Naturally integrate keywords into titles, headings, meta descriptions, and alt tags for better search visibility.
  • Improve engagement with FAQs and detailed content targeting niche, high-intent searches.
