Can A Standard Barcode Scanner Read QR Codes?

The short answer is that standard barcode scanners cannot read QR codes. Here’s why:

QR codes, on the other hand, are 2D barcodes and require scanners that can interpret both the horizontal and vertical data matrix.
• 2D Barcode Scanners: These scanners are equipped with more advanced technology, including imaging sensors that capture a QR code’s entire structure. The two-dimensional patterns (both horizontal and vertical) are decoded and converted into useful data.

So, while 1D barcode scanners cannot read QR codes, 2D barcode scanners are specifically designed to read QR codes, along with a variety of other 2D codes.
