by Car Eager World-class Luxury Car services

India has been a rather new entrant in the automotive world if compared to the globally renowned countries. Yet, within a small section of the timeline, it has become one of the largest markets for the sector. The sector has seen many advancements in technologies ranging from the ones which increased the fuel efficiency to the ones with better performance. One such aspect is safety. But this aspect has not been a prominent aspect when it comes to car buyers. Global NCAP, an organisation that took on the #SAFERCARSFORINDIA campaign and started testing the cars that ply on our roads. While many were left with a huge dent and 0-star rating, some of them made it to the safest section. Let’s list them and see what we Indians should choose in order to ply safely on the roads.

  1. Mahindra XUV300
The compact SUV from India’s very own carmaker scored a complete 5-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test rating. What’s more interesting is that it is the only car to score a 4-star rating in the child occupancy. No wonder why Mahindra calls it a fortress on wheels. The fortified cabin, disc brakes on all the corners, ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, reverse parking sensors, dual-front airbags, emergency stop signal, impact sensing door unlock, speed-sensing door lock and so on, the SUV comes loaded with features right from the base variant. Talking about the numbers, XUV300 scored 16.42 out of 17 points in the adult occupancy. For the child one, it scored 37.44 out of 49.
  2. Tata Nexon
India’s first safest car, Nexon was the flag bearer of safe cars in India. It scored a 5-star rating at the crash testing and 3-star for the child occupancy. It was at this moment that Tata knew they had to make roads in India a lot safer. And thus began the journey of safety. Tata offers ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, ALFA arch structure, dual-front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors and reverse parking sensors from the base variant. Nexon also comes in an EV avatar making a great choice where safety meets the environment-friendly approach. If numbers are what you seek, Nexon scored 16.06 out of 17 in the adult section. For the child occupancy, it scored 25.
  3. Tata Altroz
Another 5-star feather dropped into Tata’s arena when Altroz was rated 5-star for the adult occupancy by Global NCAP. For the child occupancy, Altroz scored a 3-star rating. As for the features, it is somewhat similar to the Nexon which include dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, CSC, ISOFIX child seat anchors, reverse parking sensors and impact sensing door unlock from the base variant. In the numbers section, Altroz scored 16.13 in the adult occupancy while an impressive 29 in the child occupancy.
  4. Tata Tiago/Tigor
Tata Tiago is the safest car in its segment. And Tigor, it is just the Tiago with a boot. So, the Tiago scored a 4-star rating at the crash testing for the adult occupancy. As for the child occupancy, Tiago scored a 3-star rating. One thing impressive about Tata cars, they offer a good range of safety features right from the base variant. ABS with EBD, CSC, dual-front airbags, reverse parking sensors, Tiago offers them and the Tigor offers them too. And Tiago beats its own siblings, the Nexon as well as the Altroz in the child occupancy as it scored 34.15 out of 49, highest for a Tata car. In the adult occupancy, it scored 12.52.
  5. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Astonished? A brand that is not so famous in this aspect has one of the safer compact SUVs. The body shell of Brezza has been found to be stable, which means that it can withstand loading after the crash. For the rating, it scored a 4-star rating for the adult occupancy while managing a 2-star rating for the child occupancy. Brezza is the best selling in its segment, it being safe is good news for sure. It offers dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX in the standard safety kit.
  6. Volkswagen Polo
A hatch that actually started the trend of a hot hatch in India. Polo being immensely popular among the enthusiasts needs to be safe. And, Volkswagen never fails to impress. Polo has scored a 4-star rating in the adult occupancy and a 3-star rating in the child occupancy. For the adult section, it scored 12.54 while the score for child occupancy is 29.91. Polo comes equipped with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and impact sensing auto door unlock from the base variant. With great power under the hood comes great responsibility, Polo knows the phrase well.
  7. Honda Amaze
A compact sedan that locked horns directly with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and gave it a tough time. The African model of Amaze was tested at the Global NCAP. It scored a 4-star rating for the adult occupancy. The child occupancy though is 1-star. Honda has equipped Amaze with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, impact sensing auto door unlock and ISOFIX child seat anchor points.
  8. Mahindra Marazzo
Another car from Mahindra on the list. Mahindra Marazzo is one of the safest MPV in India. It scored a 4-star rating for the adult-occupancy. For the child occupancy, it scored a 2-star rating. It comes loaded with safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX CarEager anchor points, impact sensing door unlock and disc brakes at all the corners.
  9. Toyota Urban Cruiser
The ones who follow automotive news thoroughly know very well that Urban Cruiser is nothing but a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. So, one can expect the same level of safety from the Urban Cruiser as they both are practically the same cars. It offers dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX in the standard safety kit. And Toyota in itself is a reliable brand. So we should expect that it rebrands quality products only.
  10. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Having an MPV that rocks the sales chart every time and at the same time being adequately safe is a good thing. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the king of budget MPVs has been able to score a 3-star rating at the Global NCAP for the adult occupancy. It has also scored a 3-star rating for the child occupancy. For the ones who think Kia Seltos should be on the list rather than a Maruti MPV, let’s talk numbers. Kia Seltos scored a 3-star rating for the adult occupancy while managing to score a 2-star rating for child occupancy. Ertiga scored 9.25 against the 8.03 by Seltos in the adult occupancy. The difference is significant in child occupancy where Ertiga scored 25.16 while Seltos managed to score a mere 15. This is why no Kia Seltos on the list.

So, these are the safest cars in India according to the Global NCAP crash test rating. Indians need to understand the safety aspect before its too late. Let not the carmakers fool around by providing a list of useless features while making no efforts to make the cars safe.
