7 Tricks to Reduce Your Word Count in Academic Writing

by Jessica Moore Writer

One of the most challenging parts of academic writing is cutting down your hard-won draft to meet instructed word count as a page or character limit. The reduction process can be even more stressful when you are under pressure to meet a deadline just hours away. When you do not have time to spare, small changes to your content can help you add up to the space you need.

However, you can seek English assignment help or assignment help and get experts to guide you through your paper, or you can use simple tricks to achieve the desired work count. Here are some tips that you can consider to tighten your text and meet the limit quickly.

  • 1. Delete "The "

When writing assignment, you frequently use 'the.' You can omit the word "the" from your text without losing any meaning. But be careful while omitting; ensure that you form the sentence correctly.

  • 2. Erase "That"

Another overused word is "that," which most of you include in

your paper. Again, check the meaning of your writing and delete them where necessary.

  • 3. Use Shorter Words

While writing an assignment or English essay, you often go

with the flow, but you need to resist the temptation to use long words. Instead, you can express your content in short phrases and sentences. It allows you to make the content readable and help you to cut down the words.

  • 4. Choose Active Voice

Active voice uses fewer words than passive voice. As a result, an active

voice makes your writing more precise and more compelling, which helps you tell a powerful story. Academic experts understand the importance of using active voice, and they avoid using passive voice to convey the message in a clear and impactful tone.

  • 5. Revise Needless Transitions

If your paper has exceeded a lot more than you expected; you can delete the transition words. Though these words can help maintain the flow of your assignment writing. Also, make it easier for the reader but if necessary, remove them.

  • 6. Eliminate Conjunctions

Another thing that you can remove is conjunctions like, e.g., andorbuthowever that connect two independent statements. You can rewrite the content and separate them into two sentences.

  • 7. Rewrite Running Starts

Sometimes you like to start your paper using phrases like "there are," "it is," and "the fact that." You can remove these phrases and rewrite them to shorten your text and make your writing clearer, direct and concise.

You can use the above mentioned tricks to reduce the word count. And if you can remove words without losing the importance of the statement, delete them. Also, you can use the help of an assignment editor and reduce your paper if you do not have time to edit and shorten your content.
