7 Tips for Tiling a Simple Bathroom/Shower Wall

The walls and floors in your bathroom should be able to protect themselves from splashes of water, soap, shampoo, oils, and other types of fluids on a daily basis. It is important to understand here that plastered and painted wall have no such protection at all.

So, to protect your bathroom walls, consider tile them up. And walls, there is no better material than ceramic, porcelain, or glass subway tiles. This article offers some useful tips for tiling simple bathroom or shower walls. Check out the following pointers –

  1. If you are planning a DIY, you should plan it in a way that it does not affect your daily home and work routine. Work on the project slowly but consistently. Since you are doing it yourself, there is no need to rush.
  2. Store the tiling materials and equipment outside the bathroom. Store them in a way that you can access them easily when you need them.
  3. If you did do it earlier, now is time to plan a tiling layout. While doing so, try to find answers to where you are going to install shower, taps, mirror, curtain, and other bathroom accessories. Once everything sorted, you are ready to begin the installation project.
  4. Before getting started, one last step would be to protect the floor and electric boards. Disconnect the main connection and place a cardboard sheet on the floor, if you are not planning to redo the floor.
  5. Remove existing stones/tiles from the wall. Collect the debris and clean the area to be tiled. If necessary, run the vacuum and wash the area for effective cleaning.
  6. Ensure that the substrate is in perfect level. If not, fix the level first.
  7. Start placing the tiles one by one and row by row.

Grout the tiles after installation. If you are aiming to complete 5 rows in a stretch, you should grout them after installation so they can cure and strengthen in time.
