7 Evergreen On-Screen Jodis of Indian Television We Heart
Handsome Rajiv Khandelwal acted as Sujal Garewal, in Ekta Kapoor's 2003-2007 soap, "Kahin to Hoga" opposite beautiful Aamna Shariff as Kashish Sinha. Like in Mills & Boon stories, Sujal is much too rich for his own good, but the rest of this story does sound like a hash up of Midsummer Night's Dream plus Pride & Prejudice and a few other famous books thanks to Indian circumstances. The beautiful couple however can keep Singapore audience engaged.
The Arnav-Khushi Jodi in 2011-2012 Indian soap "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon" have managed to keep audience in India interested and asking for more. Again like most of the Indian soaps Arnav Singh Raizada portrayed by debonair Barun Sobti is rich, young, handsome and arrogant, inclined to believe in hearsay. One wonders whether such men can really run big businesses without the loyalties of their partners, in this case the petite Khushi Kumari Gupta. Sanaya Irani as Khushi has been very convincing as the bride shocked out of wits in a marriage in which her husband is only viewing her as a gold digger and intends to her leave her after six months.
Armaan-Riddhima are from medical profession. For some reason Indian audience has not been too kind to romantic pairs from this profession, so this romantic pair of "Dill Mil Gayye" may have something to do with it. The role of Dr. Armaan Malik has been portrayed by Karan Singh Grover, who fits in the description of Mills & Boon hero to the "t". Shilpa Anand as Riddhima Gupta looks pretty too though it is a bit hard to digest her open hair in hospitals. But Indian TV channels in Singapore are after all, for Indians, and Indians can digest much more than this. The soap was actually a sequel of an earlier soap "Sanjiveeni - A medical Boon" that was aired in 2002-2005, but the audience bestowed enough love on this pair who appeared in the second season (2009-2010).
Though the first season of "Kitni Mohabbat Hai" did not last even a year, the love that blossomed between the rich businessman Arjun Punj portrayed by Karan Kundra and Aarohi Sharma portrayed by Kritika Kamra has left the audience asking for more and Season 2 of this 2009 soap with a different story but same pair was aired in 2010. Only Ekta Kapoor can manage such absurdities and it will be interesting to see how the audience in Singapore reacts to such things.
Rahul-Juhi pair of "Sanjiveeni - A Medical Boon", the Indian version ER! First appeared in 2004. Gurdeep Kohli has one of the most enchanting smiles and was perfect for the role of Dr. Juhi Singh. Dr. Juhi Singh romances with Dr. Rahul Mehra, first portrayed by Mihir Mishra. But Indian audience can be more puzzled with other inconsistencies in Indian TV live in Singapore and has possibly seen such changes in actors before.
Ram-Priya jodi of "Bade Achche Lagte Hain" is perhaps interesting because it showed a middle aged couple as romantic pair, and succeeded in reaching out to audience that confines love to youngsters. The couple did a few sizzling scenes as well, which was perhaps the first of its kind on Indian television. But that alone was not the reason for its high TRP ratings. The fact that this serial lasted from 2011 to 2014 and has been translated in other languages speaks volumes of its popularity and the affection this pair has commanded from audience across the country. Sakshi Tanvar played the role of Priya Ram Kapoor, and Ram Kapoor acted as Ram Kapoor in this Ekta Kapoor soap.
Manav-Archana is another memorable pair from Indian soaps thanks to Ekta Kapoor. But this pair had more lectures to offer than other pairs in "Pavitra Rishta" considering that they were teaching people how relationships are formed even in middle class families. Somewhere along the way, they became too rich, and with inconsistencies galore, the credit for holding the audience engaged should go to this pair. Ankita Lokhande's chiselled beauty stands out in her role as Archana. Manav's role was first portrayed by Sushant Singh Rajput and since the two were already in relationship in real life, the portrayal on screen touched the heart. In later years, it was Hiten Tejwani who acted as Manav, but the role did not have much of togetherness to label them as pair
