6 Tips for Choosing the Best University

by Janvi T. Blogger
Choosing a university isn’t easy. The sheer number of institutes makes it difficult for the student to decide which universities they should apply to. While many spend months deciding on the best university options, others just apply randomly. If you are among the former and still can’t decide on which is the best university in Jaipur, Pune or any other city is, here are some tips that will help you choose a university:

Choose the Right Subject
One of the most basic things to do is to be 100 per cent sure about the subject you want to pursue. You will spend your next 3 to 6 years studying the subject and then you will be working in the field. If you have any doubts, read as many things as you can about the subject you have decided to pursue. Check the career opportunities, course content, salaries you will command after completing your studies, and so on. The internet is your friend. Make sure that you don’t realize after two months of studying that you have chosen the wrong subject to study.

Check University Rankings
Like said before, the internet is your friend. Use it to check the university rankings for your city. For example, if you live in Jaipur, do a simple search for “the best university in Jaipur” and rankings will come up. Some websites will give you a general ranking, while many others will have separate tables for each subject. Keep an eye on the student-staff ratio. The lower the ratio, the better it is. Smaller classes allow for more interactions between the teacher and students.

Find Out about the Library Facilities
During your course, one thing that you will rely on heavily for studies is the library. You will be spending a decent amount in the university library, so it should be a comfortable environment. Another thing you can check is whether the campus has a 24/7 café for the night owls and early birds.

Check the Contents of the Course
You can check the contents of the course on the university website. If there is niche area you are interested in within your subject, check whether the university has it in the course content or not. Another alternative would be to contact the university directly, who should be more than happy to answer your queries.

Check What Sports and Societies Are On Offer
Whether you are an avid footballer or you love theatre, you should look for societies and clubs in the university to make sure there is something that matches your hobby. All universities offer dozens of extra-curricular activities and it is important that you check these out too, as university life is not just about studying.

Find Out about the Student Accommodation
If you want to study in the best university, you might need to move away from your family for the first time. Therefore, it is essential that the accommodation you live in is nice and friendly. But be prepared, you may have to learn how to cook, how to use the washing machine, and do other chores that you might have never done before.

The best university for you will vary a lot depending on your own needs and expectations, so make sure you do the due research before finalizing on one.
