5 waterproofing solutions to prevent leaks

by Shruti S. fashion, travel, sports

Waterproofing is an essential part of building homes. None of us wants to see our homes leak now and then. This is something that will surely happen in India because of the unpredictable climate. Waterproofing, thus, becomes essential to ensure that the house preserves its strength and beauty for a longer period. Instead of treating it as a repair solution, waterproofing should be done at the beginning as a preventive measure.

According to studies, the waterproofing market will see a sizable growth by the year 2025. This itself speaks volumes as to how the consumers in the Indian market are treating it as a necessity while building homes.

Some of the common waterproofing solutions used in India

There are several kinds of waterproofing methods available today for various purposes suitable for surfaces accordingly. Some of them are given below:

       Krytonite

This is a synthetic water stopper from Kryton. It is designed in a way that it starts swelling after the concrete has gained enough strength. The risk of crack and voids is eliminated because of the controlled swelling that occurs with the usage of Krytonite. It expands so much so that it compensates for the shrinkage. The best part is that it is very easy to install, requires no tools or machines, and the joints will be waterproofed for the concrete’s lifespan.

       New coat

Top terrace coating has been a growing concern for customers. It is very cost-effective as it can easily be applied with the help of a brush and repairs your terrace without any breakage. It is long-lasting once applied and will waterproof your terrace for many years to come.

       Bridge deck

This is widely used for protecting bridges. The water flow is heavy and carries dust and unknown material that can hamper the construction and damage the concrete. The process involves the application of primer and sealer coat to prevent the bridge concrete damage.

       Proofex

This is the best preventive measure for waterproofing because it is applied before the concrete is poured. With other options, the waterproofing solution is applied above the concrete surface, but since there is no sealing between the solution and concrete, there is a chance of water passing through between. Proofex is a seal that ensures water cannot travel, thereby preventing leaks.

       Zentrifix-Elastic

This is a waterproofing membrane, which is usually multifold and used in basements, swimming pools, tanks, dead walls, terrace gardens, wet areas, and so on. It is very useful because it is thick enough to provide equivalent coverage as concrete. That is why it finds usage not only in waterproofing but also in repairs and protection projects.

While leakage issues are something most Indian households are familiar with, waterproofing solutions are becoming increasingly more available to the Indian Market. Nowadays, waterproofing is being adopted by many builders, as well, not as a solution but rather as a crucial preventive measure. Using solutions like Zentrifix-elastic, Proofex, etc., builders can build houses that are more resilient to flooding and leakage problems.
