5 Signs It's Time To Replace Your Office AC
An air
conditioner is essential in an office, as it creates a suitable working for
conditions for people. In fact, it’s impossible to run an office without a well-functioning air
conditioner.
To
maintain its effectiveness, it’s important that you carry out regular check-ups
and maintenance. Routine check-ups reveal when there is a problem that needs to
be taken care of. Again, when the problems are detected early, it becomes
possible to control the issue at hand.
However,
there comes a time when repairs are not sufficient and your office AC requires
replacement. Even though a well-maintained AC can last up to 10 years, what
determines the right time to replace it? Below are some of the signs:
•
Inconsistency
in operation
The AC
should work the same in all connected offices. However, in some cases, it may
fail to work uniformly. The ductwork may be the reason for such malfunctioning.
It’s expensive to repair the entire ductwork but it’s cheaper to replace the
whole system. If the cooling or heating is not uniform in the office, then it
is impossible to control the temperatures. In this case, get a professional to
look over your ductwork to determine if that is what needs to be fixed.
•
Repairing
many parts
There are
parts within the AC, which are very expensive to replace. Unfortunately, they
do not last for long after replacement. The compressor and coil are some of
these parts. A good compressor is almost half the price of the AC. An AC might
have a 10-year warranty, but when you replace a certain component, it might
lose such a warranty. Also,
the part may need to be replaced every so often, which will in the long run be
expensive. So if you notice many parts are breaking down often times, it might
be cheaper to replace than to repair.
•
Age
An old AC
relies on old technology, which might not be bad, but compared to today’s
technology, it’s not the best. There have been a lot of improvements in
technology since you bought your AC. Even though a lot of technology was used
to produce energy efficiently units in the past, there is much better technology
today. Modern air conditioners have more efficiency and cut down on utility
bills more.
•
Strange
sounds
When the
AC produces a grating, grinding or a squealing sound: if it is old, then it is
time to replace it because this might just be a start to a series of things
breaking down. It could be either the metal component located in the air
conditioner, the belt, or just lubrication problem.
•
Lack of a
thermostat
A
thermostat controls the temperature within your office. If, for example, you’re
not using a central AC, and each office has their own AC, it’s quite important
that the thermostats are in good conditions. But if one or some of the ACs has
a faulty thermostat, then you need to upgrade or replace.
•
Humidity
Humidity
is caused by inadequate equipment, poor operation of the equipment, and leaky
ductwork. During winter, your office might have very dry air or humidity
during summer. The AC therefore does not fulfill its purposes. At best, you
should consider getting a humidifier in place of an AC.
Though buying a new AC might be expensive, an efficient and modern one saves you a lot of money. You
can also enjoy it comfortably without having to worry about its functionality.
There are times when repairs are sufficient, but do not ignore when the time
comes to replace.
