1) Harihareshwar:
Besides being a popular beach town, Harihareshwar is also recognised
as an important pilgrimage spot. Enclosed by four hills named after
four different deities, with a famous temple dedicated to Lord
Harihareshwar, this place is sure to bring you serenity and
satisfaction.
Around
Harihareshwar, Shrivardhan and Diveagar are two more beach
destinations. The history of Shrivardhan dates back a long way. It is
believed Arjun visited Shrivardhan during his pilgrimage. Diveagar is
another booming beach destination adjoining a small fishing village
and a number of cottages, homestays, food joints etc. You must try
some delicious local dishes from here.
Distance from
Mumbai: approximately 201 km by road. It takes around 3 hours 57 mins
to reach the area.
2) Murud:
Located at a distance of 150 km from Mumbai, the town can be counted
as one of the best offbeat destinations around Mumbai. It is
primarily a historical site with an enchanting natural view. Famous
for its fort (Murud -Janjira), which is located on an oval rock with
19 still intact bastions. It is considered to be one of the strongest
marine forts in the country. The Murud beach is well-maintained and
safe for swimming. Olive ridley turtle is commonly seen in the
crystal waters on the beach. The place is frequented with temples and
forts.
It takes about 3
hours to reach Murud by car.
3) Arlibaug:
is another beach destination but much less crowded. You can explore
around numerous beaches, the fort area and the fishing villages. A
typical destination would be Kaneshwar Mandir located 17 km from
Alibaug. The famous Lord Shiva temple is placed on a 900ft high hill.
You will find a flower and herb garden and an ancient sweet water
tank, besides, other temples.
Alibaug is about 100
km from Mumbai.
4) Dapoli:
is a little more than 200 km from Mumbai. Blessed with plenteous
natural bounty and a mild climate throughout the year, Dapoli also
boasts of a long beach surrounded by forests and hills. Jackfruit,
cashew nut, coconut and betelnut trees add to the charm of the place.
It is a home to different migratory birds as well. The place
resembles with Mahabaleshwar of Konkan. The enchanting beauty of
Dapoli will refresh your mind.
5) Kamshet:
attracts a huge number of adventure enthusiasts. It is located just
110 km away from Mumbai. Glide across the sky and experience a bird’s
eye view of the vast paddy, the surrounding hills and dense canopy.
Exploring the ancient Buddhist rock cut caves are the must things to
do here. During monsoon, the waterfalls near the caves add colour to
the surroundings. Konddeshwar Temple and ancient Elephant temple are
some other attractions of the town.
