The best you could do is to follow
some basic tips about its care and maintenance so that your beloved instrument
from Hawaii keeps making the best traditional sound without any distortion.
Read on to know more about it.
1.
Grip it the proper way while playing ukulele
Dropping ukulele is a common incident for many ukulele players. However, what causes it to fall from hands and get damaged or broken as it hits the floor hard? Most of the times, it is due to improper grip.
As a result of a fall, your ukulele could get irreparable scratches, body breakage, tuning problems, saddle detachment and other serious problems you would not be happy to have on your beloved instrument.
2.
Be mindful when using picks and capos
Make sure that your uke's body does not come in contact with a pick when you're using it. It can happen, specially when you're strumming a little harder and it may cause ugly scratches. Also, improper replacement and removal of a capo could result in neck dents.
Widen the clamp of your capo when placing it so
that there's no rough contact made between them. Before you pull it off, make
sure that it is fully unclamped when removing it.
3.
Dirty, claggy ukulele is a BIG NO!
Ukuleles are prone to grease buildup. Natural dirt and oil from your hands can cause grease buildup. A sticky instrument is unpleasant to play. Make habit of cleaning up your ukulele after every playing session.
Use dry or slightly damp
microfiber cloth for cleaning dry dirt and greasy surface of your uke's body
respectively. Cleaning uke properly is not a science and you just need couple
of clean dry and damp microfiber cleaning cloth. You can click to read more about

Wipe
your strings after playing as they tend to pick up oil from your hands. Do the
same with the fingerboard, though it needs to be done more safely.
4.
Store your uke at neat, clean, dry place
Are you mindful of where you store your uke? If you know how to take care of your ukulele, you must be storing in a neat and dry place.
Never leave your
ukulele by a fireplace, radiator, heather, oven, and at a place that receives a
direct sunlight. Store it in a neat, clean, dry, and shaded place in your house
at a safe height so that children and pets do not get to touch it.
5.
Humidity is tricky
Solid wood ukulele users should be wary of moisture, which is simply the amount of water vapor in the air. Wood used in ukulele can absorb and bleed moisture.
Wherever your uke is stored, your task is to ''control the weather''. Place a
hygrometer in your storing room to monitor humidity level. Once it is above or
below 45%-60%, take necessary steps to control it.
