5 Great Apps to Download Before Your Next Road Trip

by Stephen Mills Freelance Writer

No time to plan a trip! Not even to contact the travel agent! You are officially sick of it all! Breathe… This is 20th century. It is the age of smartphones, computers, and internet! Planning and mapping out your trip is now a breeze with all this technology. Even someone like me who is a not-so-technical person, got the best out of my subscription to Frontier Internet plans when I went abroad with my friends last year. Travel apps are the way to go now! These are essential for you to function efficiently and keep your sanity especially in situations like these.

Easily downloadable from the App Store or Google Play, travel apps will keep the stress to a bare minimum. These latest apps can be useful to find tools that are best for planning a trip, finding friends, getting around, and not to mention, saving money along the way.

However, choosing the right set of apps may seem like a daunting task. What with such a myriad of apps available out there! But don’t worry! We have done all the hard work for you.

Some of these apps will help you with everything from catching the most affordable flight ticket, and hotel to making sure you don’t fall short of spending cash throughout your trip.

Tried and tested, listed below are 5 of the best travel apps to suit your needs. Majority of these are free, and available for iOS, and Android.

Kayak

For regular travelers, Kayak has been the go-to planning app for some time now. And for good reason. It saves your time by searching across various other travel websites for car rentals, flights, and hotels. You won’t find such exclusive deals on other sites that kayak finds for you. It gives you the option of setting price alerts. With its Price Forecast, it’s easier to decide when to buy, or to just wait. Like an efficient trip planner, Kayak also offers vital details instantly such as gate number at an airport, and your hotel confirmation number. You can also access it all in real time on the Apple Watch or other such devices.

Cool Cousin

If you are one of those who like to explore off the-beaten-path places, this is the app for you. It collects recommendations from the savvy and cool residents in fourteen destinations. These recommendations also include hip new spots in areas where you are staying.

Packpoint

What if you never have to make a checklist of items you need to pack!  Packpoint has that covered. Put in your dates and location in, and it will find the weather forecast for the whole trip. It asks you to select activities you may indulge in, in order to create a list of items you need to pack.

You have the option to remove any item you don’t think are necessary. And in case your friend needs help, it lets you share it with them as well.

Yelp

Yelp is your Yellow Pages but of restaurant and bars. And it encompasses the world. Housed in the app is a treasure of reviews making this its most powerful feature! If you’re looking for the best spots to hit in the place you’re visiting, Yelp is an excellent resource! Information about restaurants consists of hours of operation, menu, and phone number for listings, and so on.  It prepares you as best as possible before you head out.

G. Spotting

Well, that is what it’s called! This travel app is from Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop.  It has more than twenty-five destination guides organized by Paltrow, Goop editors, and Paltrow’s friends. Primarily, it is geared toward foodies, art lovers, hipsters, and travelling families.

HappyCow

For all the vegans and vegetarians, this is the perfect solution.  It lists such restaurants in almost 10,500 cities worldwide. These include major cities like New York City, London, and some obscure places you would love to explore. That is not all. These restaurants also have short descriptions of their menu, as well as actual reviews.

Download these amazing travel apps if you want to make sure your next flight is more efficient, and your trip, more fun! These are also among my must have apps that help me get the most out of my adventures. Now I look forward to my annual trips. I know it takes effort to plan it all – not everything is as easy as my awesome Frontier deals. But I don’t stress over it now.
