Visual Effects, more commonly known as VFX, has become an integral part of the animation industry in the country. With hundreds of movies and commercial ads involving VFX nowadays, the number of job opportunities is also budding. Highly skilled animators are being recruited by animation firms for developing visual content focussed towards motion and facial capturing. Hence, students who are interested in animation and VFX should aim for getting admission in the best animation colleges that have well-structured programs. Students can pursue B.Sc in Animation and Multimedia to gain specialised knowledge in the field. Besides this, making a career in this industry can be done by choosing one of the following specialised fields:

1.    Layout
This particular field in the animation industry is found at the beginning of any project, be it a movie or an advertisement. An artist who is employed for layout is required for determining the depth and perspective of the screen. If the animation is in 2D, the artist has to focus on drawing objects for creating perspective on the screen. On the other hand, 3D animation is the playground of a layout artist who decides all aspect of a live-action movie. This includes choosing the right lens, camera angles, and even camera movements.

2.    Compositing
A key role is played by a compositing artist in any animation project as s/he is responsible for creating the final finished product. This is primarily done by detecting error and defining compositing strategies, just as an editor does to a content piece. For this job, it is important to be trained in editing software such as Adobe After Effects, Motion 5, etc. from one of the best animation colleges in India.

These skills are vital for this career opportunity which can be studied in B.Sc  Animation and Multimedia course from a reputed university.

4.    Roto
Rotoscoping is a procedure in which an artist has to cut out unwanted objects from an animation. A very crucial job in an animation project, the roto artist’s main responsibility is to work around live-action frames where the CG images would be interacting with the given live image. Additionally, roto artists are known for assisting in preparing the material for compositing as well. MNCs and big VFX studios generally hire roto artists at handsome salary packages.

5.    Matchmoving
As the name suggests, matchmoving artists are highly trained professionals in both 2D and 3D animation. Their key focus is on blending CG images with live-action images in a seamless manner. The most technical as well as a critical part of this job is to create a digital replica of the set on ground so that the final animation movie doesn’t have any discrepancies. Body and imaging tracking, movements of vehicles and people, set measuring, etc. are some vital techniques executed by these artists.
