We all know Ahmedabad as the ‘true’ capital of Gujarat and its tremendous progress and development has made all of us look at our own cities and wishing for the same! With the development of new office buildings, roads, hotels and other establishments that has made it one of the biggest promoters of the government’s Smart City initiative, it is also know for its rich culture. Ranging back centuries, the city that was also known as Karnavati is an amalgamation of beautiful architecture and the essence of each ruling dynasty who made it their kingdom.

Today, all these aspects have combined together to provide a beautiful travel and living experience unmatched by no other city. People love the fact that despite being such a large city its quaintness and peace has not been disturbed or compromised. Largest Vegetarian City

Gujarat has been known for its vegetarian delicacies and Ahmedabad is the frontrunner in this cause. The whole city is completely vegetarian and has gained popularity for its classic Gujarati dishes like dhokla and khakra along with Ahmedabad’s own cuisine which includes Undhiyu, Khaman and Bhusu.

The Manchester of the East

 

The textile industries of Ahmedabad have become a prosperous industry especially over the 20th century. This has led to people naming it the Manchester of the East drawing parallels to the famous town that had the biggest textile mills in the world during the Industrial Revolution. It is also called the Boston of India for the same reason and it was at its peak after the First World War under the tutelage of Mahatma Gandhi.

Fastest Growing City

In 2010, Forbes listed Ahmedabad was listed as the third fastest growing city in the world. This was because of the progress that it showed, in the form of both commercial properties like office buildings and personal properties like bungalows in Ahmedabad. Its per capita income was also twice that compared to the rest of the cities in India. It has kept its steady speed of development through different projects that make the city a future ready proposition.

Kankaria Lake

One of the biggest crowd attractions in the city is Kankaria Lake. Formerly known as Hauj-E-Qutb the second largest lake in Ahmedabad was constructed by Ahmad Shah II in the 15th century. It is also now host to a lot of garden restaurants in Ahmedabad along with having a zoo and kid’s play areas for added entertainment factors. The lake has also inspired the logo for the government bank of SBI, which is shaped according to the shape of the Kankaria Lake itself. 

Former Capital of Gujarat

The city of Ahmedabad was the previous capital of Gujarat before the shifting of the title to Gandhinagar. Although this change brought upon a slump in the otherwise growing city, it quickly combated it through various programs and development drives that has made it the beautiful city it is now!
