The reason the Government decided to introduce an additional 15 hours free childcare for all 3/4 year old children, was so families would have the opportunity to earn more money. As well as a great ploy to win a general election, it does give both children and parent's a great opportunity. The 30 hours free childcare will allow many families to work extra hours and earn more money. This in turn helps the welfare system to hopefully reduce the budget. It also could allow more tax to be collected from working parent's. It all sounds amazing on the surface.

However, of course there are a few problems! Will parent's choose to work or increase their hours if they are no better off? Are the jobs even available to allow these parent's into employment o extended employment? Yes the opportunity is there and parent's will have more time on their hands but we will have to wait and see if it actually works. We will have more idea from around January 2017 when the pilot areas in England have given many children 30 hours free childcare from September 2016. I am sure we can gather some early data from these pilot areas and really see if these additional 15 hours of free childcare do actually benefit families financially.
