3 Things You May Have Never Known About Benahavis - Simply Shuttles

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

The mountain village of Benahavis has long punched above its weight as a tourist destination and indeed, as a place increasing numbers of people choose to live, work and play.

Those who have taken advantage in the past of our Malaga airport transfers to Benahavis are likely to appreciate the Costa del Sol municipality’s many charms, sights and stimulations. But what are just some of the things you might not have previously realised about this long-time tourist magnet lying a mere seven kilometres from the coast?

Benahavis is tiny… but growing

With its population of just below 8,000 people according to 2018 estimates, Benahavis retains a relatively unspoilt ‘village’ feel compared to many other in-demand settlements on the Costa del Sol.

It is, however, continuing to attract new discerning foreigners on the lookout for a peaceful haven not too far from Marbella. Furthermore, it is important to appreciate that while the village is small, the municipality is big, encompassing an area of approximately 150 square kilometres, and taking in some of the most jaw-dropping coastal and mountainous scenery between Marbella and Estepona.

It really is Andalucia’s ‘frying pan’

Whether one refers to Benahavis as the ‘dining room’ of Andalucía – to cite another term that is frequently used – or instead ‘La Sartén de Andalucía’, which translates as the ‘frying pan’, there is no doubt that it deserves such a title.

Granted, Benhavis’s reputation for the finest of fine gastronomy is something you are likely to already know about this thriving culinary epicentre – and there really are options to suit all tastebuds and budgets in the municipality. However, this might be an especially alluring part of Spain to visit if Andalucían cooking of the more traditional kind is your thing.

Indeed, many of the ingredients that the local restaurants use are homegrown, with typical food in the area embracing the best in seafood, rice and meats. When it comes to Andalucían cuisine done ‘properly’, there is surely no substitute to Benahavis’s many excellent eateries.

At Simply Shuttles, one of our most popular services are our restaurant transfers, allowing our customers to explore the culinary delights of an area such as Benahavis without having to worry about finding the hidden gems, and while being able to indulge in the local alcoholic beverages should they so wish!

Benahavis has a rich historical inheritance

Given that Benahavis was founded by Arabs at the end of the 11th century, it probably shouldn’t be a great surprise to you that the settlement offers fascinating architectural relics.

What you might be slightly more surprised to learn is that such surviving history dates as far back as Benahavis’s earliest days as a meaningful location, the ruined 11th-century castle of Montemayor – atop the mountain of the same name – continuing to be a magnet for visitors today.

Benhavis may seem relatively small, but its capacity to captivate and surprise is by no means small! And when you are seeking out the Malaga airport transfers to Benahavis that would enable you to quickly get ‘up close and personal’ with the locality’s attractions and activities, there is no need for you to look further than Simply Shuttles.
