Delhi is a city that has seen it all- it has been through the toughest times and the best ones. It is easy to see why it would have some of the most iconic architectural marvels in India. As a major part of golden triangle tour packages, it is the present capital of India, was the capital in the British period, and also when the Mughals ruled India. It comes as no surprise that this place has one of the most important Masjids that are well kept and still functional. Here are three of the most popular architectural marvels that also function as a worship area for one of the most significant minorities in india i.e. muslims:

Jama Masjid

Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the seventeenth century at the cost of a million rupees, Jama Masjid is a mosque that has three great gates, four towers, and two minarets that reach up to forty metres high and is made of strips of red sandstone and white marble. The courtyard is big enough to accommodate about 25,000 persons and is said to have been inaugurated by an imam from Bukhara i.e. present day Uzbekistan. The iconic monument is one of the last monuments built under the rule of Shah Jahan. It remained the royal mosque of the emperors until the Mughal period ended.

Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque

Present in the same complex as the Qutb Minar is, Quwwat-ul-Islam literally translates to Might of Islam and was started in 1193 AD by Qutb-ud-din-Aibak simultaneously as the Qutb Minar was built. The style in which the mosque is built is reminiscent of the style and design implemented in Adhai-din-ka Jhonpra or the famed Ajmer mosque at Ajmer in Rajasthan.

What makes this monument special is the fact that it has intricate stone carvings and the persian inscriptions that are still present on the inner eastern gateway.

Moth Ki Masjid

Built in the sixteenth century by Wazir Miya Bhoiya under the reign of Sikandar Lodi, Moth ki Masjid was one of the mosques that was built in a newer style that was developed by the Lodis. Today, the mosque is completely enclosed within the South Extension Part II and is encompassed with residential and commercial establishments in the urban setting of Delhi. Literally translated, Moth ki Masjid means Lentil Masjid. This has an interesting story behind it. It is said that the name came from when Sultan Sikandar Lodi was on a visit to a mosque in the vicinity, he observed a lentil that was dropped by a bird. Inspired by the same, Wazir Miya Bhoiya planted lentil seeds whose sales were used to build the mosque. Thus, the mosque is known by the name of Moth.

Delhi is an incredible city that has a lot to offer to people of all kinds. There is no way you can visit the city and feel fulfilled in one go. There are many packages available by the name of ‘golden triangle tour India’ that you should not miss out on, and avail the opportunity of exploring what the city has to offer to you.
