3 Major Factors that Cause Over-speeding and Road Crashes

by h k Singh Blogger

Over-speeding has been identified as one of the major reasons behind thousands of accidents, road collisions, and crashes on road networks globally. Both developed and developing countries across the world are struggling to prevent road crashes caused by over-speeding. In many countries, road network authorities are installing more and more electronic speed signs alongside roads, highways, carriageways, and even in lanes, finding them as an effective and efficient tool to prevent accidents caused by over-speeding.

What causes over-speeding?

There are majorly 3 factors that cause over-speeding:

  1. Driver-related Factors

The factors associated with drivers are the most prominent causes behind the phenomenon called over-speeding. The driver’s age, number of people in a vehicle, and alcohol immensely contribute to over-speeding that ultimately results in road collisions and crashes. Young people often drive at higher speeds than old people. They don’t care for any Radar Speed Signs or Electronic speed signs and run their vehicles to their hearts’ content. This creates a strong possibility of road crashes while putting the lives of other people also at risk. Alcoholism is also one of the key factors contributing to the cause of over-speeding.

  1. Road-related Factors

As per a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO), various road-related factors such as the overall quality and condition of the road, its layout, surface structure, and unavailability of remedies such as Radar Speed Signs alongside are the second most prominent factors that cause over-speeding resulting in fatal road crashes and accidents. On a road or highway where no spread breaker is installed or created, more than 90% of drivers don’t use speed governors to manage their speed.

In countries where drivers make use of speed governors to manage their speeds, not only over-speeding is prevented but also appropriate speed levels are maintained causing lesser accidents.

  1. Traffic and Environment Related Causes

Weather conditions, the volume of traffic, prevailing speeds, and traffic composition are also some crucial factors behind over-speeding. When the weather is not suitable and traffic is lesser on roads, drivers often run their vehicles at an inappropriate speed. Most roads or highways that don’t have much traffic often record over-speeding from most drivers with no use of speed governors. They also ignore the Radar Speed Signs installed alongside the roads and go overboard being the cause of road crashes and collisions.

When it comes to traffic composition and density, it is often observed and recorded by the road traffic authorities across the globe that drivers often run their vehicles at maximum speeds to skip or avoid the traffic density at different road sections inviting the risk of road accidents and untimely deaths of themselves and others on the roads.

Concluding Remarks

Although road traffic authorities around the globe are installing more and more Radar Speed Signs and Electronic speed signs alongside the roads, highways, and carriageways, it is our collective responsibility to help them manage better traffic and avoid road crashes. The governments can only install these speed signs but ultimately it is the people who can make those installations fruitful and meaningful.
