3 In 1 Chemicals-An Alternative to 7 Tank Phosphating Process
Pretreatment process of Mild steel is very important job prior to paint or powder coating. But the pretreatment process of mild steel is not an easy job. It requires lots of experience.
Types of pretretreatment process for mild steel:
There are two types of pretreatment processes are available.
1. Regular 7 Tank process
2. 3 in 1 Chemicals (Alternate of 7 tank process )
Let us discuss one by one
Regular 7 Tank process: In regular 7 tank process we pass metal piece through the different chemicals.
The process of 7 tank is as follows:
1.Degreasing
2.water rinsing
3.Derusting
4.water rinsing
5.Activation
6.Phosphating
7.Passivation
Degreasing Chemicals removes oil and fatty acids from the metal surface, Degreasing chemicals are alkaline in nature means the pH of these chemicals are
Water rinsing is to wash out the particles of degreasing chemicals from the metal surface.
Derusting chemicals removes rust from the metal surface and micro etch the metal surface.
Water rinsing is to wash the metal piece and remove the acid part from the metal surface,if the derusting acid part go to the phosphating tank then the total acid of the phosphating chemicals will raise and the tank become unbalance and bad coating will occur.
Activation: Activation is used to condition the metal piece. Due to activation the zinc phosphating coating comes in uniform way.
Phosphating: It is basically a zinc phosphating chemical.it gives a fine layer of zinc over the metal piece. as all we know that zinc is a noble metal means it has corrosion resistance property, so due to its noble nature zinc protect the metal piece from the further oxidation.
Passivation: Passivation is done to passivate the zinc phosphate coating
As you can see that the 7 tank process is very typical and lengthy,it require a big set up of 7 tanks, it require lots of space and obviously big investment.
To overcome the limitations of regular 7 tank process we have invented a new technology in chemical called as 3 in 1 Chemicals by the brand name R.R-10.
It is very cost reliable product. It reduces the cost of zinc phosphate process and save lots of time.It does not require too much knowledge unlike zinc phosphating process.it does not require big set up.
Process of 3 in 1 chemicals:
Simple mix the 3 in 1 chemical with water in the ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 respectively, depends upon the metal condition.we call it bath solution.
There are two methods for applying R.R.-10
1. Dipping Method
2. Direct apply by hand Method
1. Procedure for Dipping Method
BATH MAKE-UP:- 25% solution by volume (1 part 3-in-1 + 3 part water).
PROCESS: Dip the metal piece into the bath solution.
PROCESS TIME:- 5-15 minutes.
Dry the metal piece and apply paint on it.
2. Procedure for Direct apply by hand Method
BATH MAKE-UP:-33% solution by volume (1 part 3-in-1 + 2 part water).
PROCESS: Apply R.R.-10 directly by a sponge, spray, brush or cloth depending
upon the size of the component.Allow the surface to dry (use a dry cloth). Then apply
liquid paint or powder paint as desired.
Now you can see that the application of 3 in 1 chemical is very easy and convenient as compare to regular 7 tank process.
Two many companies prefer 3 in 1 Chemicals due to its application "Direct apply by hand method".It save lots of time and investment cost.
