3 Household Items You Should Upcycle

The increasing volumes of waste disposal materials and dwindling free space to keep all of that in are a good problem to think about. When more and more people throw away rubbish, it is only natural that the talk on more eco-friendly methods, recycling and upcycling increases.



One of the latest hits is upcycling waste. In essence, upcycling means turning no longer usable items or waste into products of better quality and value. It does take a creative mind and some skills to do this, but the results are definitely worth it. If you have never tried an upcycling projects, it is a great time to start. Such an eco-friendly rubbish disposal will not only provide you with usable items, but also reduce the stress on the environment and bring one step closer to green living. Here are some ideas with most typical household items:

- Plastic bottles - it is common for plastic bottles to be recycled, which is a great waste disposal method. However, there are also plenty of projects they can be used in. From planters to use in your vertical garden to baskets, organisers and even lamps - the uses for plastic bottles are numerous. If your children are running out of ideas for next Halloween, you can glue 2 two-litre bottles together, paint them in grey or black, attach ‘flames’ made out of red/orange/yellow paper and there you have it - a DIY great looking jet pack for your little superhero.

-  Glass jars - another common object of your recycling methods. Well, if you would like to use your jars in a more creative manner, you can now do so with the help of a few interesting ideas. One of them is to get yourself the best keepsake by filling a jar with vegetable oil and putting an old photo of your choosing there. For a more creative way of bringing life into your rooms, you can create a small terrarium by planting directly in the jar. A romantic light coming from a mason jar lined up with glass marbles will make your room feel magical.

-     Paper rolls - if you are out of paper for your kitchen and bathroom needs, don’t be quick to dispose of the paper roll. It is a great material that can be turned to anything ranging from wall art, to organisers and even seed starters. That is right, you can turn this candidate item for the waste removal pile into a nice gardening feature. Simply make strips around one of the ends and fold them. Fill with soil from the other side, and gently push it towards the folded strips. Plant one seed per roll and you will have yourself a wonderful place for your seeds to germinate.

All of these are fine projects to turn your most used materials into usable crafts and utility tools. Try your luck with any of these and you will surely find something of value.
