3 Best Documentaries About Drugs

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

Drug abuse, addiction and rehab have all slowly become embedded into mainstream entertainment in Laguna Beach, Calif. and across the nation. This notion of incorporating drug use into pop culture seems to be the go-to strategy for filmmakers and producers who are striving to give their work a certain “edge.” This can be effective if done tastefully, but more often than not, it merely exposes young teens to drugs and a lifestyle that appears “cool” on the big screen.

Documentaries play an opposing role to these fictional productions. A well-made documentary can inform viewers in Laguna Beach and nationwide while steering them away from drug use, abuse and ultimately, rehab.

Below are three of most revealing drug documentaries.

‘Black Tar Heroin: The Dark End Of The Street’

This 1999 documentary follows a posse of young heroin users in San Francisco. It sheds personal light on the culture and lifestyle the users embody. It also shows the horrendous lengths that characters will go to for their vices. Each character has a heartbreaking story of their own, and director Steven Okazaki never once portrays them in a stereotypical “junkie” manner.

‘OxyContin: Time Bomb’

Produced in Canada, this 2014 documentary explores the medical field and the increasing popularity of prescription drug abuse. OxyContin is essentially the poster pill for the pain relief medication industry, and many individuals fail to recognize the harm it can cause. This documentary insists that doctors change the way and the frequency in which this deadly drug is prescribed.

‘Kids on Ice’

Methamphetamine became a widely known substance in pop culture after the hit AMC series, “Breaking Bad.” What this show fails to demonstrate, however, is the true effects the drug has on its users.

This 2014 documentary follows the harrowing lifestyle among teenage meth addicts in rural Australia. The prominence of this drug is beyond startling.

If you or a loved one suffers from drug addiction, contact a qualified rehab center in Laguna Beach or a location near you before it’s too late.
