Camping is fun… if you have the taste for it, that is. The sheer feeling of comfort out in the open, soaking in the environment, being one with nature, sitting around a bonfire sharing stories or singing is probably what campers enjoy the most. Not to mention the enjoyment of living out of backpack and trekking new places.

There are many camping sites across the world. There are some spectacular destinations in India too, and with the tourism in the country picking up, now is a good time to visit some of them.

1.    Dandeli
Closer down south in India, Dandeli offers a wonderful camping experience. You can either check yourself into relatively more comfortable rooms if tents are not your style, or stay in the latter and enjoy a wonderful jungle camping experience. You can enjoy white water rafting, jungle safaris, trekking and adventure sports in Dandeli. You can also sight birds, mammals and rare butterflies, thus enjoying a complete experience of being close to nature when you enjoy a holiday here.

2.    Rishikesh Valley Camp
Not just nature, you get to explore your spiritual self here too. Located at the foothills of the colossal Himalayan mountain range, Rishikesh is a popular tourist destination. The camp site, however, ensures that you find the peace and serenity needed to contemplate and introspect. Wonderful weather and surroundings - you can see the mountains, greenery and hear the Ganges flowing - make this destination a wonderful place to enjoy camping in India. You are served only organic food and can enjoy other activities like rafting, trekking, spas, ayurvedic healing and more. The best time to visit this destination is between July and September.

3.    Jim Corbett National Park
Located in a forest, the Jim Corbett National Park camping site offers an authentic experience of living in the wild. You wake up to the sound of birds chirping and animals getting ready to embark on their search for food, and doze off to the cooing of owls. It is a protected location, meaning that while you can enjoy staying in the wilderness, you need not worry about being attacked by wild animals.

When you travel to India, it is important to carry a calling card along. At the destinations listed above, the internet may not be reliable. Thus, you may find it difficult to make international calls using calling apps. Instead, a calling card let you make international calls at really low rates to almost any destination across the globe. These calling cards can be purchased and recharged over the internet also. So if you are running out of balance, your family can recharge them from their locations. And if they have calling cards too, they can enjoy unlimited calls to India and stay connected with you for as long as you are on a vacation.

There are many other camping sites in Ladakh and places like Jaisalmer and Asansol where you can either indulge in luxury camping or a mid-range experience. We have listed three camping sites, but we do not imply that these are the best. However, each camping site listed here offers an experience that you will cherish for long.
