2D ISOMETRIC in AutoCAD
by Ravi Bhadauria ADMEC Multimedia InstituteIsometric
drawing is the most common type of pictorial drawing used in the drafting
industry.
Isometric
is a view in which all three axes appears at equal 120o angles with
the plane of projection. This drawing is an adjunct to the tools and drawing
aids that help to create 2D view that looks like 3D.
The
term isometric is defined as something having equal dimensions.
In
this drawing does not have any perspective? The edges that are equal in length
are also drawn equal in length therefore the angle between the three planes and
edges of an object remains equal. The vertical edges of an object are parallel
to each other and form measurable isometric line 900 from
Horizontal. The horizontal edges of an object are parallel to each other and
form measurable isometric line 30o from horizontal
During
drafting of the drawing we used the same command like we use to graft
orthographic drawing but when we switch from orthographic to isometric drawing,
the grid and grid snap will change from rectangular to a diamond pattern
corresponding to isometric angles. In addition, the grid line will change to
grid dots, and the grid and grid snap distances will also be adjusted automatically.
When you turn off isometric drawing, grid setting will be restored. It is a
flat representation of 3D isometric projection.
This
drawing isusedto make an object in picture form for further elucidation of the object’s
appearance. This type of drawings looks like a picture of an object that is
drawn in two dimensions. Existing AutoCAD commands such as LINE and COPY are
used for preparing thesedrawings. These drawing looks like three dimensional drawings
but actuallythey are not. An AutoCAD isometric drawing is a 2 dimensional
drawing just like a paper/pencil drawing. AutoCAD provides some tools to assist
us in creating the drawing.
Isometric Snap:
Polar coordinates and dynamic input or dimensional input are common basic point
entry options for isometric construction because they allow you to specify
angles. Polar tracking set to 30° increment angles is also an effective method.
One of the most useful aids for this drawing is the Isometric snap option of
Snap and Grid modes.
Isometric grid
and snap modes orient the grid and snap to isometric angles. You can align the
crosshairs with the left, right, or top isoplane, depending on the plane on
which you plan to draw.
The standard isometric planes, called isoplanes, are as follows:
· Right. Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 90-degree axes.
· Left. Aligns
snap and grid along 90- and 150-degree axes.
·Top. Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 150-degree
axes.
The following commands and features are most
commonly used to maintain precision in this drawing:
- Polar tracking and direct distance entry
- Object snaps and grid snaps
- Object snap tracking
- Move and Copy
- Trim and Extend
