In the wintertime, the road to the Hamptons is a quiet, relatively straight-forward and lightly-trafficked stretch of highway. Behind the wheel of the 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V(with Car Dvd Player), the 55-mph speed limit doesn’t seem unfair: It’s downright insufferable! Running flat out, at its top speed of 200 mph, the CTS-V could vanquish the round-trip journey from Brooklyn to Montauk in just about 90 minutes (minus any fuel stops). It could easily carve new patterns into the frozen sandy beaches, visible from planes landing at JFK, thanks to the 630 lb.-ft. of torque that’s instantly on tap. Whereas our first drive of the CTS-V provided ample opportunity to test the sedan’s full capabilities on a closed track environment, we wondered if the CTS-V would be as engaging a drive when there are posted speed limits. The short answer? Seeking to reinvent itself as the performance leader for a brand in transition, this third-generation CTS-V now has a bit of a problem with authority. What about install an Android Car Gps? How did it end up like this for the CTS-V, the “four-door Corvette of fantasies” that was an original sleeper hit for Cadillac? The mandate has evolved for the CTS-V, which started life three generations ago as a mission to prove that Cadillac could build a luxury sedan competitive with the world’s finest sport sedans. The first-generation, 400-hp CTS-V shocked the establishment with just the right amount of power to take on the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63. For the CTS-V’s second act, Cadillac tossed in a 556-hp supercharged V-8, and expanded the range to include a sedan, coupe, and one extremely menacing wagon. If installing an Android Car Stereo in your car, that would be great!
