2 Adventurous Road Trip Itineraries in Australia for a Camper Van Owner

by James Spencer Blogger

An Australian band called Men At Work sang, ‘we come from a land down under’, and if you want to head back to the land, here are three of the best road trip ideas you can bring to fruition to have a closer look at the ecologically diverse country.

Australia is a land of mesmerizing beauty and lush greens as well as vast tracts of bush lands, and if you own a camper van, you can grab the wheels and get out into the unknown. You can either move through the breathtaking, rugged coastlines or delve deep into the heart of the red earth.

  • Northeast Edge: Cairns to Brisbane

The stretch between Brisbane and Cairns is one of the most fun road trip routes in Australia. This driveway runs parallel to the coast and gives one the view of the country’s most treasured natural locations: the Whitsundays, Cape Tribulation, Fraser Island and last but not the least, the Great Barrier Reef Islands.

One great addition to the journey will be sojourn at Queensland to take part in adventure sports. Queensland is the adventure centre of Australia, and you can choose between several adventure sports ranging from bungee jumping, skydiving and rafting. Queensland has lush and beautiful shores that will make your journey from Cairns to Brisbane, worthwhile.

It is the road that connects a myriad of islands and beaches, and this will be another aspect to look out for if you are planning on an Australian road trip along this route. The road is well maintained because of its proximity to the beach in more than one section. You must include this coastal road trip in your round the country itinerary. Australian winter is the best time to go on this road trip. Make sure to keep approximately two weeks in hand to see all the tourist destinations along this road at a relaxed pace.

  • Southwest Edge: Perth to Adelaide

The long road along the southern coast of Australia is one of the most adventurous drives on our list, and there are good reasons behind. This part of Australia is one of the most challenging as well as one of the most barren terrains on earth. It is called the Nullarbor Plain, which translates to ‘the land of no trees’.

As you take this path, you would come to understand the significance of the name. It is one of the harshest environments of the country. You won’t be able to see a soul for hundreds of kilometres in the barren land. A large section of the route is entirely straight. However, you need to have the eyes of a hunter to be able to see the end of the road. It would be best if you made a stop in Cape Le Grand National Park along the way to take a closer look at the biodiversity and the wildlife.

‘Crossing the Nullarbor’ is one of the most classic tropes in Australian movies and a dream route for a veteran Aussie camper van owner. There is no trace of the city which you’ve left far behind, and an open road will welcome you into the heartland of Australia. Pull your camper van over when it’s night, do some star gazing and try to figure out which one’s the Orion. It’s a road trip you won’t be able to forget. The ideal time to roam in this region is from July to September. Keep ten days in hand to ensure you have enough time to bask in the solitude of this breathtakingly scenic route.

There are a lot of companies that provide camper vans for sale in Perth around this time. Pick up a coveted name from these, and cruise through the autumn wind!
