Social Networking That Matters
I'm the type of person that prefers to read and listen much more than talk, until necessary.I try to offer help when it comes to things that I have experienced.
I use Twitter and Facebook, but mostly for sharing info with my photography crew and bloggers. I felt guilty, because I was using those interactions and conversations as a weeding process...to see who my real connections were going to be with.
We all know that there is a time and place for everything, and we are all here to get exposure for ourselves and for our programs. This is what I like about ApSense, you have plenty of options to choose from, just remember you are still dealing with people.
Found this short video by Seth Godin, just to share some food for thought:

Well numbers do matter when people that follow you, do it for the value you provide instead of a useless 'follow back' (in any social media platform).
I rather have 10 connections to whom I can really interact with than 1000 people who are just trying to cold sell me something no matter what.
Great video and to be honest I don't know much of Seth Godin's work, I think it's time to do some research for me, thanks!

As usual Seth Godin gets his point across very clearly. I've seen the video before, but it's good to come back to again.

Very good video Selya thanks for sharing. People need to understand that Miss Congeniality is not the winner of the crown. Yes she may collect a lot 'friends' but they are in name only.
It's like I keep saying you don't need to be friends with everyone on a network. You need to build relationships and deadwood on a contact list or friends list is not relationships.

Good article and thanks for posting Seth's video. I have been following his marketing techniques for years and he has a really good grasp on social media marketing. The biggest number really wins nothing... how many of those friends do you really communicate with?

Certainly, number is not important. Real connections matter. That is the essence of Seth Godin's philosophy of Flipping the Funnel, a concept that revolutionized internet marketing. Use the funnel as a megaphone to your fans and that starts working. And my friend Phil uses this concept effectively. Rollins, you have, in so few words, brought forth the necessity of meaningful connections howsoever few they may be. Spread the easiest way to spread and that goes viral - the essence of Godin's work.

Hi! Thanks for sharing this video.I like Godin's ideas a lot. He has really done some interesting thought on modern days of "fake social networking". These are also the days where you have the power to decide what you want, old MAD MEN in some fancy agency have to re- think a lot of old tricks. That's pretty new and exciting for advertising people. I see that collecting contacts in FB or Twitter is kind of a trend. Who gets the higher number, wins! Sometimes I thinks people are doing it just be

Selya, I guess we all wish all our connections were fruitful. There are nice surprises though, like when you find out someone you had connected with gets motivated and the relationship grows.
Tolerance and patience are keys to success in networking, not the only ones, but essential.
Thanks for the video :)
