WrestleMania 27 Results
Wrestemania 27 was an exciting show with a
lot of huge matches and stars. The show started with Keri Hilson singing
America the Beautiful followed by the introduction of the gyest host, Dwayne
"The Rock" Johnson. The card for this show included the following:
Edge vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship, Cody Rhodes vs
Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton vs CM Punk, Jerry "The King" Lawler vs
Michael Cole, The Undertaker vs Triple H, Dolph Ziggler and Lay-Cool vs John
Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki, and John Cena vs The Miz for the WWE
Championship.
First up was Edge against Alberto Del Rio
for the World Heavyweight Championship. In Del Rio's corner was Brodus Clay and
accompanying Edge was Christian. So this match started pretty evenly with both
superstars feeling each other out and shaking off the Wrestlemania jitters. Del
Rio was working the arm as usual and Edge connected with a couple of big boots
to gain momentum momentarily. Del Rio got Edge in the cross arm breaker but
Edge quickly got to the ropes. Alberto then went for a quick pin, this time
when Edge's foot was on the ropes Ricardo Rodriguez knocked Edges foot off.
Christian took care of the outside of the ring, but when the ref's back was
turned Edge missed a spear and Brodus Clay pulled Edge into the ring post. Del
Rio took advantage and locked in the arm breaker once again. This time Edge
countered with a near fall followed by a submission of his own. When the hold
was broke, Edge hit a spear and pinned Del Rio to retain his Championship. Then
Edge and Christian went to work on Del Rio's Rolls Royce.
Next on the card was Cody Rhodes against
Rey Mysterio. Cody started out all over Mysterio, he even connected with a
superplex holding Rey up for a good 20 sec on the ropes. However, Rey always
finds a way to turn it around and got Rhodes out of the ring to gain momentum.
Rhodes seemed to have a counter for everything that Rey would throw at him,
when Rey finally did get Cody in position for a 619, which was also countered.
Rhodes then went after the knee of Mysterio and removed the brace. Rey countered
by getting Cody's mask off, he then connected with a 619. Rey put on Rhodes
mask and hit a head butt from the top rope. Rhodes picked up Mysterio’s knee
brace on the outside of the ring and hit Rey when the referee's view was
obstructed and followed it up with crossroads to steal a win.
After a brief talent show hosted by Teddy
Long and Snoop Dogg We had an 8-man tag team match between the Corre and Big
Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston. This match quickly erupted into
all 8 members being in the ring and when all was cleared, Santino connected
with a cobra on Heith Slater, one of the legal men, and the Big Show followed
with a huge right hand to knock Slater out and gain the pin fall.
Now a huge rivalry was to be settled
between Randy Orton and CM Punk. Right from the opening bell Randy exploded on
punk, that is until Punk got a good shot on his injured knee. From that point
on every time Orton got the upper hand, Punk found a way to attack that leg.
Then Punk went to the top rope and got caught by Orton. Randy would follow with
a superplex but that would not be enough. Punk went back to work on the leg and
Orton gained momentum for a minute, then Punk locked in the Anaconda Vise, but
Orton made it to the ropes. CM Punk then got caught outside of the ropes and
Orton hit the DDT off the ropes. Setting up for an RKO Randy had a change of
heart and decided to go for a Punt. His leg however would not hold up and when
he tried to hit an RKO Punk countered. Playing possum, Orton was successful on
his second try, catching Punk off of the ropes with an RKO and pinned him for
the win.
Talk about heated rivalries, Jerry Lawler
finally gets to face Michael Cole in the ring. Stone Cold Steve Austin was the referee
in this match as Jack Swagger would be in Coles corner. After Michael Cole came
out running his mouth, he ran and hid in his cage. Stone Cold ordered the bell
to ring and The King jumped the wall into the cage with Cole and escorted him
to the ring. However, when Austin's back was turned, Swagger attacked Lawler,
first slamming him into the ring, then with the ankle lock. Cole was able to
take advantage and work Jerry over a little bit but when he tried his an”cole”
lock, The King flipped it and kicked Cole off of him. Swagger tried to throw in
the towel but Austin refused. When Swagger tried to argue his case Stone Cold
hit him with a Stunner. Jerry then got some long awaited retribution and let
Cole have it ending with an ankle lock that Austin made very sure that Cole
wanted to give up. After the match, as The King and Stone Cold celebrated with
some Steveweisers, Booker T joined in only to walk into a Stunner of his own.
The RAW GM sent in a message that Josh Matthews read. It stated that since
after Michael Cole put his hands on the referee and the referee pushed him that
Lawler was disqualified and Michael Cole is the winner. Jerry was not happy and
tossed Josh into the ring so he to could experience a stunner.
Now a streak plays The Game in a no holds
barred match. Triple H entered the ring first appearing confident. Then the Undertaker
made his way to the ring intimidating as usual. Triple H was quick off of the
bell until the Undertaker threw him over the ropes. On the outside of the ring
The Game also got the upper hand before meeting the steps. As the Undertaker
was clearing the table, Triple H put him through the Cole mine. Back in the ring
things started to even up, then Triple H left the ring to clear a table to
attempt a pedigree but instead got flipped off of a table. Taker then waited in
the ring prowling, when The Game started stirring, The Dead man launched
himself out of the ring onto him. The two rearranged the furniture by throwing
each other around outside of the ring, and then returning to the ring the
future hall of famers exchanged momentum, as well as signature moves yet to no
avail. A Tombstone Pile driver or 3 pedigrees would not do the job. A chair to the
back of the Dead man about 10 times and then 1 huge shot to the head, still not
enough. Triple H tried a Tombstone himself, but it would take more than that to
hold down the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Bring in the sledgehammer, but The Game
got caught in Hells Gates and tapped out.
Next a mixed tag team match between Dolph
Ziggler with Lay-cool against John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki. McCool
and Stratus started off after the ref broke up all of the competitors in the
ring. Trish Stratus got the upper hand on McCool and would have finished her
off but Dolph got involved and pulled her off. Morrison took care of Ziggler
and Stratus tagged in Snooki to let her finish off McCool for the win.
Last on the card would be the Miz against
John Cena for the WWE Championship. This match was also very evenly matched
with both stars displaying their strengths and seeking out their opponent’s
weakness. Miz took one of the turnbuckle covers off but Cena still countered
and locked in the STF but the Miz got to the ropes. Then when the ref’s back
was turned, Alex Riley got Cena from behind. The Miz caught him with a skull
crushing finale but Cena kicked out. After this the ref got knocked out for a
few minutes in which John Cena pinned the Miz but there was no one to count.
MIz then tried to catch Cena with a brief case but instead hit Alex Riley with
it. Cena got one more near fall when the Miz decided he was leaving. Cena
however chased him down and blasted himself and the Miz over the wall and they
both got counted out. The Rock then entered the ring and ordered that this
match be restarted with no disqualifications and no count outs. Cena got into
position for an attitude adjuster on the Miz but the Rock got Cena from behind
with a Rock bottom and allowed the Miz to win and retain his title. However,
when the Miz was celebrating, the rock took to the ring again to take care of
the Miz and finished him with the peoples elbow.
