What is wrong with Guarantees?

Nowadays you see all kinds of advertisements, trying to convince you which program is the best to participate in.
All of a sudden they all guarantee you to be in profit within a month, or to have a downline of 6 within a month.
This ain't gonna happen. It is mathematically not feasible!

guarantee

Just look at it this way: I guarantee you that I will get you 6 signups. I can do that, no problem. So I get you these 6. But hey, they received the same guarantee from me. So now I face the fact that I have to get those 6 their 6 signups as well. So this month I need to get 36 new signups.

Ok, that's not too much of a problem, I'm a good marketer, I know how to advertise and I get 36 new signups. It takes some effort, but I'll pull it off.

Now we enter the third month of my wonderfull guaranteed program and I need to get my latest signups their guaranteed signups, whoopsie: 216.
Like I said, I'm a good marketer, so when I put my mind to it, I'll even manage this, even though it's roughly 7 signups a day. Ya, by the end of the month I've got them!

Enter month 4: I need to get 1296 new signups, to make all signups from last month happy campers!
Yikes, this is starting to get tricky. Will I manage? Or will this month be the first month that I won't be able to live up to my guarantee?

The pitfall

Many a good program with a basically sound foundation will run into this problem. And that is a shame.

  • It's a shame for the programleader, who never meant to get into this situation.
  • It's a shame for the program itself, it has a good product, but it's going to waste now.
  • And it's absolutely a shame for you, since you happen to be one of the last signups....

Now you might say: "But you have a team now, and they will get those 1296 easily!".
Will they? Really? What kind of people have I reached with my efforts in advertising? Did I get the people who are serious about Network Marketing to join my team, because I convinced them with my superior product and the superb commercial techniques I've been using?
Or did I get through to a group of people who are attracted to the fact that I guaranteed to get them a downline of 6 and they reckoned they didn't have to do much, or anything at all?

I'm afraid I have been attracting the latter group. But even when we assume that I managed to get 50-50, this would still mean I personally will have to deliver 648 new signups, the team will take care of the other 648.
And I don't know about you, but I don't know too many marketers who are able to pull that off either....

So why should you still start with Network Marketing?

Network Marketing is good! It's a healthy business and when you put your effort into it in the right way, you too can be successful, just like many before and after you.

But you need to stay away from the "Guarantee-programs", since sooner or later they get into trouble, sadly enough for all parties involved.

Find yourself a program that is marketing a good product and make sure you get a coach/sponsor, that helps you to do exactly what he does.
If he can get 6 signups a month, AND he can teach you to get 6 signups a month, AND he can teach you to teach your 6 to do that as well, then you are starting to learn the true benefits of network marketing: Copy good business strategies from your coach, apply them to yourself and paste it onto your downline and help them do the same.
