Why Should I Adopt A Shelter Pet
Did you know there are thousands and thousands of homeless pets in this country? These poor animals through no fault of their own are presently living in shelters waiting to be adopted or destroyed. Why? For a number of reasons like the bad economy, abusive people, ignorant pet owners, and the list goes on. I don't know about you but this breaks my heart.I feel for the people that have lost their jobs and homes. A lot of these people were forced to move to apartments which would not let them bring their pets along. Some just could not afford the extra money to care for and feed their pets. They had great animals that unfortunately are also victims of this economical mess. So, do you think they deserve to die because of this? I sure do not!
I just want to make people aware of what a problem this is. I urge anyone who is thinking of getting a pet to please, please check your local animal shelter or pound to find your new pet. You will not believe the selection of pets you will have to choose from. At these shelters you will find the average Mutt, Designer Dogs, and Pedigree Dogs. There is nothing wrong with these animals. They just need a loving home. People seem to forget that animals have feelings and emotions. They hurt, feel sadness/happiness, and don't understand why they were left at shelters. Animals from a shelter are so happy to be adopted that they become very loyal pets to their new owners. You must remember to be patient with these pets. It might take a little time for them to readjust to their new home, just as it would if you adopted a child. Just give them love, attention, and make them part of your family. You will reap the rewards of having a loving and loyal pet for the rest of their life. So please remember when you are thinking of getting a dog to check out your local shelter. You won't be disappointed.

I share your pain Cindy. I have been there many times myself being that I have had many pets in my life. My husband lost his 33 yr old son 9 years ago. He told me when our last dog passed there was no difference in the way he felt. Now I have to prepare for the next. My Buster (12 yr old) German Shepherd is really up there in age. I just thank the Lord for each and every day I have left with him. He is really like our child, and we love him so much.

I have many many critters that I share my home with
All were unwanted, and unloved until they came here.
Most of mine were found along the side of the road
or were dropped off here.
I only adopted one from a shelter and that was my beloved dog
Andrew
I am not able to speak of him without crying to this day.
Words are not able to express the loved I had for that dog.
I wrote a blog post about him several years ago on the 10th anniversary of his death. I sent it out to my list....
