Spam Not Just For Cans Anymore

I just wrote an article about spamming. It is so universal and so miss understood I really felt it deserved another look. First of all let me give you the exact definition. That may help more then anything else. Where people really get the whole telemarketer thing. When somebody calls you up unasked to sell you something. People do not seem to understand spam. While it is basicly the same thing it is completely misunderstood. Poor spam it is misunderstood in the can as well. I guess we can call it a syndrome.

According to Wikepedia spam is the use of elcectronic messaging systems which include broadcast media and digital delivery systems. To send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. Let me say that part again just in case you missed it. Unsolicited in other words I did not ask for it. While the most widely recognized for of spam is email spam, this term is applied to similar abuses in other media, instant messaging spam, usernet newsgroup spam, web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wike spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social networking spam, television advertising and file sharing network spam.

It really does not bother me personally what I find funny about it and the reason I actually decided to write this article is that so many people just don't get it. It is completely misunderstood. Like that can of mixed up ham parts that it is named after some folks call it what it isn't while they themselves are guilty of it all the time.

Writing a very well traveled blog (I get several hundred vistors per day) gives me ample opportunity to be real familiar with what it is and what it isn't. I have a place at the end of my each blog entry for comments. A comment is not spam. Since I have a place that allows the comment I in essence have soliciated you to leave a comment. Each comment is then sent to my email and I have the option of approving the comment or not approving. If the comment has no link in it and even sometimes when it does I approve it. That is not spam. What is hysterical is I get comments all the time about how much they love my blog but sometimes they will say but it would be better without all the spam. They are referring to the comments that they themselves are leaving!! Well it if is on my blog it is not spam is it?

Since everything on my blog is placed there or approved by me it is not spam. Why because I put it there. Comments cannot go on the page untill I approve them. There for I soliciated them. I want them there. The few ads that are there other then adsense I have allowed. I like them. I want them there. Everyone is a critique these days it seems. I exspecially love those comments that say I love it but. Well I love it and there is no but. I like peole to feel free to add what they want and take away what pleases them. It really is the whole piont of my blog. That and to educate those looking for information and to entertain where I can.

Everyone spams people whether they realize it or not. Whenever you send any information by email that a person did not ask you personally to send them you are spamming. Us internet marketers who purchase email list are by definition spamming. Yes they may have asked for further information but they did not ask us personally for further information. So should we stop doing it? Of course not it is how we advertise. If I email someone on a social network and I have built up no relationship with the individual well I am spamming them. Should I reconsider doing that. Absolutely. I may burn a bridge and turn somebody off from my business. On the other hand if I sign my name with my opportunity when I send a personal message on a social network to someone I have built a relationship with although by definition it is spam well I am guilty of it and do it from time to time.

I spam all the time on forums and blogs etc. by the shear difinition of it. Every blog I write I sign with my capture page and on my personal wordprss blog I sign it with my business link. When I write articles I again use my capture page and I write a couple of articles a month for ezine. It is spamming and am I going to stop, no way. It is what I do. I write and I write because that is what I am good at and so I use it for advertising. It is terrific free advertising. On the other hand I do not write a blog or article that has no content other then my business. To write a blog, forum or discussion that has no content other then my business that is spamming of the worse sort and you will not get far doing it.

Just like I have the right to approve those comments I have the right to delete what I want in any other personal space you may intrude upon. Many people do it on a regular and whether they know it or do not know it they will continue regardless of what I want. Telemarketers inspite of the do not call list still telemarket. Just slightly less indiscriminately then before the list was instituted. Telemarketers drove my mom crazy and she would get mad. I could careless. I get less these days since the list but it has not stopped completely nor will it is how many advertise. Spamming will continue just maybe some will do it less if they are informed of what it is. Spam away to me if you like but I would be a little more careful to others if your trying to build a business online. Think before you spam just like I would suggest you think before you open up the can of ham parts. You just never know what is inside.
