Jang Geun Suk's Mary Stayed Out All Night Review

Jang Geun Suk once again showed his versatility in his latest drama Mary Stayed Out All Night. We admire this handsome guy in his movies and dramas such as One Missed Call, Baby and I, Beethoven Virus, Hwang Jin Yi and the drama that skyrocketed his career across the Asia and even in some countries outside Asia You Are Beautiful.

In Mary Stayed Out All Night (MSOAN), he played the role of Kang Moo Kyul who is a vocalist of an amateur rock band playing in small time bars. Blessed with good looks and musical talents, he had lots of offer from talent scouts but refuses them because he doesn?t want to leave his band members as he treated them as his only family. He is living alone. Her mother who gave birth to him when she was 17 years old always left him to their relatives.

Along his despairing life, Mary (Moon Geun Young) came across. She hit Moo Kyul with the car she is driving with her friends. Mary, afraid of being liable for the accident, pretended to be a fan of Moo Kyul, asked him to write an autograph for her in a clean paper so that she can write a waiver of responsibility. But Moo Kyul found out about this. He tore the paper and stayed at Mary?s place instead.

On the other hand, Mary?s father always been haunted by two men because of his debt that makes Mary?s life more difficult. One time he met his old friend and helped him pay the debt. In exchange to this they will arrange the marriage between Mary and his son Jung In. When Mary knew about the arrangement she immediately went to Moo Kyul and asked for his help to pretend that they are lovers. They even set a fake marriage to show the proof to his dad that she is in love with other guy. But her father forged her signature to make her marriage to Jung In legal. She cannot resist the fact that she is married and cannot appeal in court because his father will be liable in fraud.

Jung In is in entertainment business. He conceptualized the drama ?Wonderful Day? starred by Joonie (Moo Kyul?s ex girlfriend). He only accepted the marriage arrangement because he wanted to obey his father and also for the sake of the business because his father is one of the largest investor of the drama.  He looked at him as a God and said that ?he is gracious, but merciless?.  Jung In thought of a 100 day deal to make him, Mary and Moo Kyul time to think and give Mary time to decide whom she will choose.

Along the pretensions, Moo Kyul warned Mary not to fall for him. But the tension grew between the lead characters when they start to work in one office. Moo Kyul was offered by Jung In to make a sound track for the drama which he refused at first but later agree after being persuaded by Mary.

As time passes by Jung In learned to like Mary as he discovered how loveable she is. The same with Moo Kyul and Mary, they didn?t admit how the love grew inside them until the night of Mary?s engagement party.

Moo Kyul changed suddenly as his cold heart turned warm and loving when he met Mary. He is a natural rocker and one day realized that he is writing and singing a ballad song. He even found himself crazy jealous of Jung In when Mary is with him.

 

Personal View:

I?m not a fan of Jang Geun Suk and Moon Geun Young tandem. But I?m proudly recommending this MSOAN to Kdrama lovers especially Jang Geun Suk?s fans. This drama is another milestone for Jang Geun Suk?s career. You are going to love him here more and even deeper. For me it is a continuation of his character in You Are Beautiful. Anyone can relate to it.
