Working From Home
I want to point out some important information about working from home. If your kids cringe when they see you in front of the computer, you are doing something wrong. The computer is NOT your life. Using the computer is a means to work from home and ENJOY your life. That's it, nothing more - nothing less.
Your family should always be your top priority. Limit your computer time to the hours you can be available when you won't take time away from your kids. I promise your kids don't care if you make $10 or $100 an hour. They just want you. You are the most important thing to them. Working from home should be a "means to an end".
Now some of you may argue...my kids are not school age yet, they are always home. This is when you need to set up an office and really Work From Home. Let the kids know you are unavailable while you are working. Set up a schedule for them to understand. Make sure you stick to the schedule. This will require a set routine. If you can accomplish this, your kids will understand you are working and you will instill some good core responsibility values.
It is easy to get caught up in a separate computer world. Remember WHY you started working from home. If your WHY was to spend more time with your family, then adjust your schedule to accommodate that goal. Both you and your kids will end up being happier in the long run.

Great article! I tried to work online and take care of 5-7 grand kids all summer long, really did not get much done! Evenings was all the time available and the husband was not happy!
Now that I can work during the day, I do get off of here in the evenings once in a while! Weekends, are another story, if no one is home but me, I choose to get some work done.

Once we realize that it's not about the money, it frees up our mind to attract more sales and then spend more time with our kids. Once they are grown, they are grown.

To answer you Dawie, yes; I do believe we instill (or at minimum we work at it) the qualities of work, ethics, respect and the such into our children.
There is a time for work and there is a time for family, and we should keep them separate.
In saying that there are times we have to spend additional time at the work end of it whether we really want to or not, and then that affects the family part.
.....I should end here, sometimes it can be hard to clarify things in writing through a post

My kids are all grown up and live around the corner. They are welcome to drop in any time and they do. However I told them I have little time to chit chat during office hours but that I have time for them after normal business hours and in the weekends. unless there is some problem or something urgent of course.

Important article this Catherine, i am sure many of us has overstepped our limits here some time or another.
It is however true that the PC can become an addictive tool, especially with social networking and IM. This is where a schedule really comes into play.
I still spend way to much time on the computer, but this is my full time occupation, both offline and online. AT the end of the day the bills must get paid as well.
@Corey, all i can say to your last statement, is hopefully we ins

Family really is the key to life, at the end of your day, and the end of your life, they are the ones that are still there........
Don't look back on your day or your life and have any "what~if's" or "I should have ----- instead of ------" (you fill in the blank, I would guess that most of us can fill in the blanks pretty easily?
Catherine you are absolutely right with your article.
I, (like many) can look back to certain instances in my life that I wish I would have spent that extra ti

Wow this is really good I must say that I myself have been guilty of working on the computer so much that I don't pay my child as much attention as I should & he does get frustrated. This is one thing I am taking heed to & taking more seriously also!!!
