Snowballing - The Snowball Effect
I was chatting with a gentleman from another country the other day when I mentioned I was hoping my business would start snowballing next year. It wasn't until he asked, What Did I Mean?, that I realized this might not be as common an expression as I thought.
Snowballing is an expression that can be used in a couple different ways. When used in reference to building a business, at some point you want your organization to start snowballing. This means, like rolling a snowball down a hill, your organization will keep growing and growing on its own. In essence, you will have reached the level of growth to have achieved the "Snowball Effect".
It is the dream of every marketer to build an organization which will reach this level. If you work hard and build a good team of smart marketers who understand your business, eventually your organization will "take on a life of its own." Hmmmm......maybe that is another expression which is only common in my area.

@rip I am not sure that question fits the analogy but let me speculate and say, at the bottom of the hill you will have acquired such massive volume that you will continue to roll. Inertia!

@ Catherine, It is clear now (to me) what is snowballing but it raise another question in me that would we cherish our success when "like rolling a snowball down a hill" and become mammoth structure, but at the bottom of hill. I am not negative but I would like to know about it.

Yes, I mentioned it can be used in a couple of different ways. I like to think of it in the positive terms. But, I have heard it used the other way, as well. :) Think positive and watch how the world changes around you.

I understand the concept of snowball effect...we just used it more as a negative term before especially when something bad happens it just snowballs...so thanks for that positive note. I am going to use that.

Yeah I read that loud and clear, he could have thought you meant a huge snowball fight in your business, imagine the mess that would make of all your papers and not to mention destroying your computers. Good article.

I like that analogy Lonnie, thanks for sharing.
I think we are all hoping for the level of growth where we can't keep up with the numbers. Something to look forward to in the new year.

You are absolutely right Catherine. Good job! You can also call it the ripple effect where your business grows on it's own. But to reach the snowball effect you have to reach the tipping point. It's like climbing a mountain you don't hit success until you reach the tip and then it's all down hill from there.
