Creating A Blog
Recently, I have been having conversations with a few people about how to create a blog. The first response I always get is "What will I talk about?" or "I don't know what to write about." These are legitimate concerns.
The only thing I can really recommend is write about what you know or love. Even after saying that, I know creating a blog will be extremely difficult for some people. One of the biggest fears, we as human beings have, is that we will look or sound stupid in front of our peers.
The easiest way to alleviate this fear is to start with a few short posts. Just write down one thought and put it out there for the world to see. If you speak from the heart, you my be surprised and receive a great response. Try to keep it simple. You will never know until you try.

@Chris - I am surprised to hear that you don't have a blog. I know you are very active. You must be doing a good job commenting to get your name noticed. Kudos to you. You will be a natural.

Thanks for the encouragement. I do not have a blog yet, for this very reason. I have been contemplating it for a long time, perhaps now I will do it.

@Chad - that is a very good point about SEO. Blogging and article writing are a fantastic way to get in some back links which will increase your SEO rankings.
I think it is important to remember it doesn't have to be a long post if it is at your personal blog. As a matter of fact, I think you will gain a more loyal readership if you keep your posts short and to the point.

Well stated Catherine. I have two blogs outside of APSense and I can't seem to find time to post to those much less sit and write here. Time is a commodity I find precious and speeding past me at a rate too fast to be comfortable with.

Catherine, I have learned that it is easier to write about something you are passionate about. Whether it be business related or hobby maybe. You did great with this.

Great info here! You really can't go wrong when you blog about something that you have a lot of experience with and are passionate about. Another great benefit that will come from your blog is the search engine traffic that it can and will generate for you.

@Alan; great point, I never thought of it that way; I think I should start writing articles and blogs directly related to the programs I represent; to date that's not something I have done. I've saved that more for the Rev Pages.

The best way to write a blog is to do it about one of your programs, I find that writing about what attracted you to that business is a good start

When you start, you also may have a lot of ideas, themes you would like to talk about. So it could be quite difficult to put them all together and create a nice looking blog.
Another point is for sure that one in the beginning isn't quite familiar with the 'technical stuff'.
So Catherine I only can agree with you, simple choose 1 topic you like and than start writing on it.
Write it first on a simple text document - when writing imagine to create a letter to your best friend - than simply

@Laura - It does seem by creating a body of work, blogging, you gain more recognition and are considered more of an expert in your field.
@Corey - That is a great point. If you are still too nervous to start your own blog, then start by commenting on other peoples posts. By doing this, you will start to feel comfortable putting your thoughts down in writing. This will could very well give you the confidence you need to start your own blog.

Hi Catherine, you're absolutely correct in saying we worry about what others will think or say about us. This started for me when I was still in grade school and continued into high school when we had to get in front of the class and do a verbal book report or read something we wrote.
What I never thought about was;
There were 25 or more other kids thinking the exact same thing I was........fear of their interpretation of me!
Once you realize that, things aren't so bad, as our peers are no

Great advice Catherine. I avoided starting a blog for 3 years for fear that I wouldnt know what to say. And I'm sorry to say I waited so long. That fear cost me alot of money. Since I started blogging, my sales and network have nearly tripled. If you have not started blogging yet, I highly recommend starting asap!
