Why Pay For Radio?
Why pay for radio? I used to say this all the time. Many people don't see the need to pay for radio. I agree with this to a certain extent. Those who think of radio, think of it as music stations with commercials that's free. When asked about Satellite radio many will say I don't need it I have my IPOD or cell phone with all my music. And to me that makes sense if you only want to listen to just music or a book. But what if you would like to hear music and little comedy from a well known comedian in place of commercials. Is that different than your regular radio station or IPOD? It most certainly is.I have Sirius Satellite radio and I used to be one of the naysayer's who would say why pay for radio I'm not in my car long enough to listen to it. I understand that as well. What would you rather listen to while driving to the store or bank? Comedy channel with good music, Book Channel with your favorite Authors, Martha Stewart Living to get your favorite recipe to your favorite dish. With Sirius Satellite radio you get it all. With over 130 Channels of Commercial free programming, Well let me retract that. Almost commercial free there are some dedicated channels to well know celebs that do some advertising but its no more than one or two commercials.
What if the free Radio station you listen to had to stop broadcasting because the advertisers had to cut back on advertising because they weren't making any money. Now your favorite free station has to broadcast in HD which requires you to go out and buy a HD receiver which is really not cheap just to get free radio. With Sirius Satellite radio I'm able to take my Sirius with me everywhere I go. I have it on my cell phone and in my car. I also listen to it in my home with my docking port.
My favorite channels to listen to on Sirius are Foxxhole with Jamie Foxx with other well known comedians and large variety of Contemporary Hip Hop and R&B music. I like listening to the NFL channel when I have to run an errands during a football game. I like 70's and 90's channel. Jazz Channels and many others. Click here to see full guide. Which brings me to my next point many people who have Sirius don't really know what channels are available to them. They just pick one or two stations and that's it. These people are cheating themselves out of some good programming that they are paying for.
Remember television used to be free now everyone has to pay for it. Radio is now free but it won't be too long before you will have to pay for it, especially if SB 379 (Radio Performance Act) is passed in Congress, this will make the radio stations pay the artists for playing there music and that cost will passed on to us the consumer. The advertising rates would have to increase to continue the free programming. With Sirius XM the artists are being paid what they deserve. I think if a station plays an artist music, the artist should be paid. Sirius charges a MRF(Music Royalty Fee) on each of there subscriptions this insures that the Artist is being paid.
Plus you get extras like the upcoming live broadcast of Paul McCartney in Concert on Dec 13th. Sirius XM has hit the 20 million subscribers mark and as way of saying thanks Sirius is giving its subscribers this live broadcast of Paul McCartney's concert Free. See details.
Get your Sirius XM while they are giving away free 30 day access. This offer will not last too much longer so act today. Sirius makes a great gift. Whats your thought? Should radio be free?

That's why I do CD's in the car and my project playlist online. I can find good old school music that I want to hear! I've even got Green Onions on Project playlist and i love it because it have the DJ on the end of the song, none other than the late great Wolfman Jack!

The problem I have with free radio is that in the US all the major radio stations are owned by Clear Channel. Clear channel has gotten rid of the DJ's in favor of a computer programmed 'rotation list of the same songs for each genre. No matter where you go the C&W stations all play the same songs. The urban stations all play the same songs and what really fries me is the 'classic' rock stations. with all the great music out there they all play the same songs.
That because that computer ha

To everyone who posted here, RocTech took the time to write an informative blog. So far, I'm the only one who clicked the "top it" link, even though there are positive comments here, not counting Denis who copied and pasted the beginning of the blog. That's abuse, Denis, according to ApSense. You've been reported.

Let's not forget that we can listen to Internet Radio. There are so many channels out there, for every kind of music or topic imaginable. And many are free, no subscriptions. So, we listen to radio while surfing or building our businesses.
