How To Tell If A Site Is A Scam

You know I have been working online long enough to see so many sites out there that are scam site and other sites that are not a scam but when you Google them it looks like they are.
Well there are some key ingredients that can jump out at you to tell you a site is a scam - the main one is that if it's too good to be true and you are setting there asking yourself - how in the world can they offer that - then click the x at the top corner and run.
Other ways to tell if a site is a scam is most of these sites are ONE pagers and full of promises that no one can ever fulfill. They will have FAKE Testimonials and even those fake screen shots showing you their Paypal and Alertpay - those are so easy to create.
While researching how to tell if a site is a scam, the one thing that I did learn was when you put in a site into the Google Search (which I do BEFORE I join or buy from them) is that not all headlines are true. Most of you know my latest venture has been Global NPN and I'm going to use them as an example of what I'm talking about here.
If you Google Global NPN - you are going to see the front page full of headlines with scam in them - BUT wait - take a look closer at the true picture here. The first one is The Global NPN Scam- but the funny part is that after you read the article - which most will not do - you will find out that it was written by a single father of two that loves Global NPN and is making money but you know why scam is in his title.............Google will rank you higher if you put scam after the title of a company or product and it's all about being on that front page.
Continue on down the page and you will see that there is NOT one article or video that is saying anything bad about Global NPN . All they were doing and all they were interested in was getting to page one on Google.
So I ask you, if you had an honest company out there that people were happy with and you ask your potential lead to Google and check out your program that you are telling them about, a company that is legit and really doesn't have any negative reports, posts, articles or videos out there about them - is that really fair??????
This has been one of the things that has bugged me for quite awhile and just wanted to make people aware that you can't always believe what you see - before you just read a headline and think it's the truth - take the time to read and see the whole picture - look most closely before you make a final decision.

Actually it is the site owners responsibility Nancy because in most cases the word scam has been inplanted into the sites meta tags something only the developer of the site can do, also a responsible site owner on discovery that his/her members were using the word scam to promote their opportunity would demand those ads be taken down and discipline the members responsible or remove them from the opportunity.

I agree that people should be more careful about using the word scam just to gain attention on Google but I don't think that you can say that it's the business owners fault that people do that and being a site owner it would be hard to track all that - personally that is taking away from what my job is and that is helping others and making sure that the sites run smooth, your sites are getting seen and that you are getting results. I think it is very wrong to use the word "scam" as headline in articles about legitimate sites. Personaly I would delete any affilaite who would promote my business as scam.

It has always bugged me that the posts that had the word
SCAM in them were the ones that made it to page 1 of Google
for Global NPN.
I Love NPN. Lately I have been seeing many people selling the
Sizzel (pay plan) and not the Steak (the tools NPN has to offer)
People are joining for the great commission structure and not
taking advantage of what NPN has to offer...they are making a
BIG Mistake!
I know you love NPN just as I do. But that is becasue you took the time to check out the to

the really sad thing is people tend to ignore the warning signs or listen to the advice and then when the scam happens and they lose their shirt they blame the naysayers for not being convincing enough and helping them see the truth, when all the time the info has been given to them they have just refused to take heed

I think a good way to tell if they are a scam is if they use you to get traffic for themselves and are never of any REAL benefit to you. People know that traffic is of key importance online and many of them will deceive you into promoting their site.

It's a sad thing that this blog has many posts that are considered abuse or plain spam. I reported all the ones I saw.

The key there Gilberto is that ALL legitimate businesses have public contact information, When you cannot find that information, they are not legitimate. Even if a business does not have an online presence their information will be indexed and cataloged into online business directories like Reference USA, Merchant Circle, Manta etc. (Those are the main ones in the US there are literally hundreds of them)
Those sites hunt through public business information and then list those business. No

pplcheryl63 Good idea about using the whois data, but the privacy option has been introduced with many domain registrars. At first I thought that using this option was actually a good thing, but like you said, why remain private if the whole struggle online is to get a good ranking, especially if one is a "business." Yup, no whois info "RED ALERT". Thanks Cheryl

How to tell if a site is a scam? Go to Who is and attempt to find the corporate information. If you can't find anything-SCAM
Once you get that 'corporate info' verify it Fax Machine when you dial the phone number? People on the other end have no idea what you are talking about?-SCAM
That will knock out over 50% of those scam programs without ever having to look at a Google search!

Good info, thanks. But I have to question why would I want to buy something that it's sales force, ie. it's affiliates must resort to underhanded scams to get a high ranking? They are really doing a disservice to Global NPN. While a few may read the article and have an ah ha moment and then proceed to buy or join it, the majority will see the head line and "click the x at the top corner and run".
