Do You Take Your Crystal Ice Bucket the Tailgate Party?
If you are an avid tailgate attendee the answer to the question, is most likely no. But, I ask, why not?
Don?t we use our fine china for all our other home parties? Why not
take our treasures on the road with us? The most typical response is that it
would be broken, laughed at by our friends or just not considered to be the
manly thing to do. Let?s reflect upon these reasons and see if they are truly
valid or are we just saving, even hoarding our precious items for days that
never come.
You do not bring expensive home items to the tailgate party because they will be damaged.
But if you
really think about the typical Buffalo tailgate party (my neck of the woods), you
pack all your items up in a box and then unpack them at the party in the
parking lot, and set up your buffet table. How is this any different from
removing the fine china from the cupboard and displaying on you table at home?
Oh yes, you may break it in the 10 seconds it takes to pack them in the box.
The next argument is that your guests tend to become drunker at tailgate
parties. I honestly hope this is not the case especially with the strict
Driving While Intoxicated laws today.
Our friends will laugh at us if we take fine things to the football games.
So what if they see your nicer
items on display. If it were a party in your home you would not hesitate to
treat your friends to your fineries. Your best friend or favorite relative
invites you over in their not so nice neighborhood. Do you hesitate upon going
because they do not have what you do? No you just attend because you love your
friend. I guarantee your friends will treat you with the same respect. Go ahead
take that beautiful decanter set to the game. Must we always do everything our
friends are?
Taking nice things to a tailgate party is not considered the manly thing to do.
Why not? Why is drinking out of a germy paper cup or beer can or having ice dripping and making puddles being a man? Being manly at a football game seems totally ridiculous to a woman like me who lives for Football Sunday and becomes depressed in the off season.
So in conclusion, I say,
enjoy your life, give you and your family the best and if it breaks, for
heavens sake, buy yourself a new one.
