E-Commerce truly is the wave of the future, if not even the rage of the day. I personally believe that as technology advances we are going to see tremendous growth in the area of online business and E-Commerce solution providers.

Why solution providers?

This would be kin to asking why Windows is needed when we have DOS. As tools become easier to use people will gravitate to them faster, this is no exception for the Internet.

To illustrate consider the difficulty of creating and adding PayPal buttons to a project. Programmers may have no trouble with this, but they are not the average user.

Solution provider E-commerce services cut through all this red tape by making it easy for you to get going. While this option can cost a bit more to implement, the advantage is that everything is done for you and your project is quickly streamlined to the market.

In what ways will E-commerce services help you to succeed online?

  • Promotional possibilities
  • Exceptional brand experience
  • Shopping efficiency
  • Community involvement
  • Comprehensive and compelling information
  • Gifting services

Many, like Magento, even help integrate PayPal which can be seen as part of the shopping efficiency.

This leaves you with two options.

The ?do it yourself? approach where you have time to learn all the ?in?s? and ?out?s? including the integration of PayPal offerings.

As it relates to PayPal, here is how you do that.

Start by creating a PayPal account. If your making PayPal part of your income stream then this will need to be done no matter which option you choose.

Once into PayPal select ?Merchant services? (which is the fourth blue tab from the left at the time of this writing). If you have only a few items then select the ?buy now button? and create separate purchasing options for each product. However, if you are building a store you will want to consider going down the trail of the ?add to cart button? instead.

Finally, integrate the resulting code into your Website project.
For a developer this is not tremendously difficult, most other people will find challenges arising. On the positive side you can always call PayPal customer service for help. Unfortunately, I personally have had my own challenges with their team of service agents.

There was a time when I would have recommended the above as your best option. E-commerce solution providers have changed those days in major and largely affordable ways.

Possible options to consider for your own Ecommerce Web site solution are:

? Magento Ecommerce
? PHP
? Joomla
? Drupal
? OS Commerce

To thoroughly explore all options would be an article of itself if not an outright book.

A blog post involving Google trends on this very topic showed Magento E-Commerce Services as a clear front runner in this type of technology. It doesn?t take an in-depth review of Magento E-commerce software to understand why this is the case. My own personal opinion is that Magento is very user friendly when comparing it to other similar technologies and it nicely integrates PayPal functionality into all its pages leaving you free to take on other challenges within your business.

However, not all needs are created equal and if you find your own personal E-commerce solution to diverge from Magento then select what is best for you and build from there.
