Woven
Woven carpet is formed on a loom that is similar to woven cloth. There are different colored fibers being used and the whole procedure is capable of producing complex patterns from designs that are pre-determined.  
Usually, woven is the superior quality of carpet available on the market.

Tufted
These kinds of carpets are produced on a tufting machine either by using a single colored or sometimes a non colored yarn. If a non colored carpet is being used, then the carpet will be dyed or printed with a design as a separate process. Carpets that are tufted can either be loop pile, cut pile, or a combination of both. These machines can produce huge meters of carpet more than woven, and they are normally at the lower end of the market.

Flat weave
The flat weave carpets are created by interlocking weft and wrap threads. The types of oriental flat woven carpets include soumak, plain weave and tapestry weave. These kinds of carpets are not popular in the North American region, although it is very popular in the orient and Japan.

Hooked rug
These kinds of carpets are handmade by pulling strips of cloth such as cotton or wool through the meshes of a very sturdy fabric. These types of carpets or rugs are generally known as the handicraft.

Saxony
Saxony consists of tightly twisted cut piles that are heated to set them straight. They contain two or more fibers that are being twisted together in a yarn. They also provide a soft texture for informal as well as formal areas. They will show footprints and even marks from vacuum cleaners.

Cut and loop piles
The cut and loop pile is a mix of both looped and cut fibers. These carpets provide a great variety of surface textures and also provide a medium durability. Cut and loop carpets are available in either solid or different colors and are the best types if you are planning to use one at home. The several other layers in this carpet flooring can hide dirt and footprints in formal and informal areas.

Textured Saxony
Textured carpet is the best selling and it works well at homes as they have a very soft feel.  The carpets offer solids and multi color selections that will help hide footprints. They are tightly twisted and texture heatset for medium durability.
