  • Racing
  • DUI
  • Getting in an Accident while Uninsured
You may need be required to purchase and carry a high risk motorcycle insurance policy. Typically, your premiums will be quite high, as insurers will classify you as a high risk individual to insure. Also, you may be required to send proof to the state of your insurance coverage via SR-22.

Additionally, certain sport bikes are judged by insurers as significantly more risky to insure than others. As you might imagine, large displacement sport bikes are at the top of most insurance company lists. This is not a subjective viewpoint, or the product of prejudiced mass opinion against sport bikes. Rather, insurers base their rates upon statistics, and it is unfortunately true that a much higher proportion of motorcyclists are injured or killed on sport bikes than on any other type of motorcycle.

Additionally, sport bikes are subject to much higher rates of theft than cruisers, dual-sports, dirt bikes, supermotard bikes, sport tourers, or long-distance baggers. This is another reason that premiums are higher. But don't high rates keep you from doing what you love. You find the best rates on high risk motorcycle insurance if you do your homework and compare insurers online.
