Shopping is a high-minded activity here in Durban that several routes are dedicated to this pleasure. When it comes to shopping, the city compares well with other big world cities. Shopping malls are in profusion and are all conveniently located. They range from food stores, boutiques, leather-work chain stores, Craft stores, bookstores, supermarkets and chain clothing stores.

An enthusiastic shopping traveler to the city may spend a day here without making up the mind on what to go for. There is a specialty shop around every corner of Durban. There are numerous well-know designer shops all over the city including La Lucia Mall, The Pavillion and Point Waterfront Fleamarket.

For the best bread, cakes and pastries, dressings artistically designed in authentic African designs, basketry and much more all are available for choice in Durban.

In Durban, the choices vary from luxury shopping mall merchandise to downtown Indian markets where you'll find the best curry spices in the country and quality African craft items at the African Art Centre at Tourist Junction.

Heritage Market in Hillcrest is so prominent for local goods. And is a great magnet for European travelers. South Africa tourists and Durban travelers here are usually spoilt for choice on sight of artistically designed products such as Ethnic Zulu pieces basic for beach vacations.

Apart from the malls which include fashion, home ware, food stores and pharmacies, there are several restaurants and coffee shops will provide sustenance for tired shopping bodies.

Durban shopping is, however, not only restricted in established or giant malls. Flea markets are still going strong and street vendors are all over and South Africa as a whole.
