A Precision Shag Haircut, Military Style

by Rebecca Beasley Consultant, Web Designer, Script Set Up
I did a brief stint in the military when I was younger and while I was standing in line for my government issue stuff, we passed by the barber's door and could hear the conversation and watch as the guys got their hair cut.

The line was really long as you can imagine so we all got to see as the barber asked this one guy how he wanted his extremely long hair cut. He told him he wanted a precision shag, which was popular at the time. As we watched amused, the barber quickly cut his hair in the best precision shag haircut I'd ever seen. Then he turned the chair around so the new guy could see how well his masterpiece looked. Then as quickly as he'd cut it, he shaved it all off. I'd never seen a man's face go from happy to sad so fast.

But we all got a good laugh and the line finally shortened and we moved on. We all got stripped of our identity that day and became GI's. All government issue and no personality, just olive drab and black leather boots. From that day on, we never heard our own first name again unless we were in our barracks.

If you're thinking of making a career out of the military, believe me, you'll go through some stuff but you'll also find some humor in every day life. You'll learn to appreciate every moment that you're not out in the rain getting soaked or in a hole knee deep in mud. They make it sound a lot more attractive on tv than it really is, but one thing they say that's true is this. You really will do more before ten oclock than most people do all day, or even in a lifetime!

It's all in a day's work. Up at 5 am and you don't go down again until 2 am sometimes. So if you don't mind going without sleep, having no identity, and being put through the wringer, then by all means, the army is what you're  looking for.

Go for it.
