Trendy Clothing For Several Occasions
It has been said that clothing makes the man, or woman, but whether or not that is true is a point for debate. However, clothing sure does make an immediate impression, does it not? What you wear speaks volumes about how you perceive yourself. It also expresses how you want to be perceived by others. Here are a few thoughts on wearing clothing.
Why the notion of fashion ever came about is a mystery. But at some point in our history clothes became more than protection from the elements and instead became a symbol of status, personality, wealth, and so on. We do judge books by the cover, even though we all know that we should not do so. We see this all through out our days.
Fro instance, how do you dress when no one else is around? When you are home all alone, and you know nobody will be stopping by, what will you put on? Will you schlep around in an old robe and some ratty slippers? How about some holey old sweats and socks? Maybe you just never get dressed at all and run around in underwear all afternoon. Here is only function, and rarely any form.
This whole notion changes as soon as you have to go somewhere. When you got to your job, for instance, do the colors have to match? Will you be able to wear anything you please at work? Or do you need to wear a specific uniform or a type of outfit that is deemed suitable? On the job is where form meets function, and fashion begins to matter a bit.
After work is when the fashion really begins to shine. When we are going out with others, and trying to impress others with our look, we tend to get a bit fancier and flashier. After all, when you are out looking to meet new friends, you will be preening and strutting around like a peacock in full feather trying to attract some attention. Clothes will certainly attract attention, whether intentional or not.
And what about special occasions? When you go visit, say, your family for dinner, you will probably not be wearing work clothes or party clothes. You will be dressed nicely, to be sure, but relaxed. This, too, is a different arena within which our clothes send a different message.
And sometimes form completely usurps function, like in formal affairs. If you are a member of a wedding party you may be asked to wear a dress that you will never wear again. You may have to rent the proper clothes, because, honestly, how often will you wear white tie and tails? These clothes tend to be very uncomfortable and the only obvious function of them is how they appear.
You see, clothing really does say an awful lot about the wearer. Sometimes the message is clear, sometimes, subtle. But the message is always being broadcast. So take the time to think about what you are saying when you get dressed so that you may say it with clarity and purpose.
