Grand Canyon Skywalk: Nature Inspired
Grand Canyon National Park is a natural wonder which brings millions of visitors to the United States every year. Hosting numerous amphibians, birds, reptiles and mammals there are as many acres of national park as there are people visiting. Several distinct eco-systems cover the vast canyon landscape. Archaeological evidence points t human presence in the distant past, with structures built right into the stunning red rock. Look down from the Grand Canyon Skywalk, however, over the scenery as early people could not quite have seen it merely from the rim.
The Skywalk resembles a horseshoe, sticking out from the rim of a canyon cliff thanks to incredible developments in structural engineering. External images show materials seemingly chosen to resemble adobe rock, though whatever its construction, the pathway has to be more than sturdy. Suspending visitors over the Colorado River, advanced technology has aided in creating a safe tourist attraction, no matter how improbably looking.
Any fear of heights might put a visitor off, especially with a glass bottomed pathway. Then again, such an opportunity may be worth swallowing that fear. High clear walls protect tourists all the way around.
Feel like a bird in the mist. Watch the sun glint off of white peaks on the river. The Grand Canyon cannot guarantee you great weather, but you can still feel like you are soaring. From this great height gaze on the majestic flight of a rare California Condor, a species being reintroduced into the wild from this area.
The Skywalk, being fully modern, is keeping up with the times by trying to meet environmental expectations. This means finding an alternative to fossil fuels where possible. Though a diesel generator provides power to the walkway, much of the fuel is bio diesel. An outdoor cafe with picnic tables also aims to be as green as possible in terms of materials for disposable items. This restaurant serves buffalo burgers, beer battered onion rings plus menu items for vegetarians, health conscious consumers and kosher choices.
The growing gift shop offers items in person and over the internet. Purchase photos of your visit to the canyon by supplying the date of your visit and you may not be too late to get one even after returning home. Get your tickets on the web and be prepared to enter the glass-bottomed attraction before even arriving at the Grand Canyon. Merchandise lines continue to grow, so watch for clothing and more.
If your visit inspires a closer look at the canyon, where you can touch the rock and really hear the rush of river water, there are other ways to visit. Tour by jeep if you like, or take to the trails with a good, solid pair of hiking books. Should the thrill of heights only make you want more, book a helicopter tour.
Otherwise, hop on a bus from your hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada or Kingman, Arizona, both of which afford easy access to Skywalk. Or take the road less traveled, learning what a park ranger does by joining an educational experience. Such knowledgeable individuals understand the importance of preserving wildlife habitat for such critters as raccoons, mountain lions, coyotes and many other species who graciously share this beautiful location with people.
