I Wish I'd Tried Smokeless Cigarettes Sooner
I'm getting older now, fifty-two, and I've been smoking cigarettes for a long time. I think I had my first one when I was just about 14 years old, and I've been smoking the same brand ever since. I've had luck on my side, no health problems, but it's really just a matter of time if I keep up this terrible habit. Now with smokeless cigarettes I'm living a lot better and evening the odds a bit.
My trucks and cars always smelled pretty bad. I never noticed it too much, but when someone would get in they'd always mention it, and I never really liked that. At home, I had cigarette burns on the sofa, and even on my clothes. As much as I tried to stop smoking, I just couldn't. I tried to quit so many times I can't count.
The thing with smoking, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you, is the little triggers in your head. After dinner, with morning coffee, with a beer, when driving, all of these times I'd light up without even thinking about it. It was just a given that a cigarette went hand in hand with these things.
The cost of cigarettes is really prohibitive these days. Sometimes more than five bucks a pack, I'm not really able to pay for them anymore. I remember the old days when they cost less than a buck, now it costs me like $150 a month to smoke real cigarettes. If I added up how much I've ever spent and could get it back, I'd be a rich!
Now there's the anti-smoking laws. I sat on a park bench last week and I got dirty looks from everybody until I noticed the no smoking sign on the bench. You can't smoke in bars or restaurants, so every time you want one you've got to stand outside like a leper. No one lets you smoke in their house. I remember when everyone had an ashtray on their coffee tables like it was a normal thing!
So now I'm on to the smokeless kind. Electronic technology that uses batteries to get me my fix. I wish I knew about them so much sooner. I can smoke while driving and I don't even have to roll down the windows. My house won't burn down if I fall asleep with a lit cigarette. I can walk downtown and smoke without dirty looks from the health nuts. It's great!
You get these charge packs to set how much nicotine you want. It's not a quitting smoking tool, but I've found I can easily drop the amount of nicotine back to what I need instead of getting whatever garbage they put in cigarettes these days. I saw a thing on TV one day where they said the contain rat poison!
So now I'm loving it. I don't even need a lighter, I just hit the cig when I want a puff and can stick it back in my pocket. It lasts longer too, as much as a week with one rather than going through a pack a day. I love technology. I love my mp3 player, my cool plasma TV, but to me, the best invention of the century is the smokeless cigarette!
