Life's little embarrassing moments
Skunked Out of Class
When I was in the second grade I had an experience that I will never forget. The morning was brilliantly lit with sunshine and no clouds in site. I was sitting at the table eating my breakfast, taking my one-a-day vitamin, gathering my things together to take to school. My mother instructed me to go and finish getting ready for school so she could take me in the car. So, I did as I was told to do. I got in the car and she drove the four miles it took to get there.
Upon getting to school, I got out of the car and went inside to where my classroom was with all of my classmates. I sat down at my desk and prepared for the day at school. It wasn?t long before some of my classmates began to complain of an odor that seemed to be coming from my area. I told my teacher and classmates that it wasn?t coming from me that I knew. So my teacher asked me to come up to her desk and she smelled of my shirt to see if it really was me that had that horrible smell. Needless to say that she had confirmed that it was indeed coming from me. She got out her perfume bottle and literally sprayed it all over me to see if it would make the scent go away.
To make a long story short, my teacher had decided to call my mother to come and pick me up from school. I waited for my mom in the office foyer till she arrived at school. When my mom got there, I went to get in the car and we drove all the way back home.
I had to shed out of my clothes and get in the bathtub and took a bath in vinegar water. I was embarrassed to say none the least. My clothes smelled like a skunk. Then, I remembered that my dad had set a trap outside the previous night before just right outside my window where the opening to the crawl space was underneath the house. I noticed a thumping outside my window during the next night and called to my dad to come check it out. He had heard the thumping too. So, my dad went to get his pistol which was a .38 Smith and Wesson and went outside to where he heard the sound coming from. Bang! The gun went off and the thumping had stopped. During the night the smell had lingered into the house through my window and had gotten on all my clothes in the closet. Mom had to wash everything in the house to get rid of the smell as best as she could.
I went back to school and my teacher made sure that I was acceptable to sit in the classroom again without my classmates complaining. She also wanted me to get up in front of the class and tell of my story of how the skunk made for an interesting day. I agreed and had the class just rolling with laughter. I mean I really turned what seemed to be an embarrassing ordeal into a comical one. And that is how I was skunked out of class.

You had me smiling and chuckling with your story Nathan, I enjoyed reading it. Reminds me of the time our dog, Sadie came back home after tangling with a skunk--the smell woke me up from a sound sleep! We doused Sadie in tomato juice--I think the vinegar would have worked better.

Yes, as I have said in the past it doesn't pay to mess around with a little furry black kitty with a big white stripe down his back. Thanks for the comments Darrell and Pete.

As I lay very quietly on my blanket by the trout lake the noise that woke me made me think one of my friends was in my tackle box looking for lures. A slight look to the left, my box in sight, 3 feet from my head gave me that, freeze or else feeling. No movement from me, the kernels of corn laying in the top tray were being stolen by a thief. My thoughts were, you dummy, you forgot to close the lid to the box. My prayer was, this critter doesn't get a hook in his lip. Finished with the
