The way you decorate your home expresses a lot about your personality. The furniture and decorative accents that select are indicators of your interest and hobbies. Your approach to home decorating tells your visitors a lot about who you are.

There are several different styles of home decorating. There are some styles that are fitting of a certain climate, while others reflect the heritage of an individual.

We live in pour homes, and our families live there with us. This comment is obvious but it also implies that in many cases the way we decorate our home is in the traditional 'busy family' style. This style incorporates elements of chaos and disorganization. It includes items being throw anywhere and the furnishings being an eclectic collection of whatever you inherited from your in-laws, combined with the latest addition from a local garage sale.

If you have a family and live a busy life then it may be difficult to arrange your home the way you desire. However, redecorating does not have to be expensive or a major project. You can create a theme by adding some simple elements and od this gradualy if necessary.

Home decorating styles are rather varied and assorted. Of the many techniques that exist there are some that are more popular than others. One of the more popular decorating techniques is the contemporary technique. This borrows from the latest trends and incorporates them into a palate of light colors with the occasional bold statement thrown in.

Colonial is another style that is popular. This is based on accents that are indicative of life several hundreds of years ago. There are two different approaches to this depending on which side of the Atlantic you live on. The British approach to colonial decorating is to use antiques that are formal and intricate, while the American approach is a bit less formal.

Mediterranean styling stems from classic European countries including, Spain, Italy, and Greece. Depending on what area of influence you select your d?cor may also be referred to as Spanish or Tuscan. These settings can be flexible and may be fancy or casual depending on your personal tastes. These styles also depend on metal to accentuate the theme. These metals may be as informal as wrought iron or as formal as copper.

Tropical is one of those themes that lends itself well to a particular geographic area, but can be used in homes anywhere regardless of the location. Tropical consists of elements that are associated with beach life and the islands. There is emphasis placed on the sun, sky, and the tropics. The furnishings involved in this setting are typically made from lightweight materials that provide a feeling of a casual lifestyle.

Some home decorating techniques can be used in conjunction with another to create an eclectic theme. These styles should complement each other rather than contrast. Many times a decorating accent from one style will lend itself nicely to another theme.
