Can A Dumbell Workout Routine Be Considered A Full Body Workout?

If you've decided on a dumbell workout plan you will need to get the basic sets of equipment. This is probably the most economical as well because all you really need is the following sets of equipment. You will need to have a slant board, an adjustable dumbbell bench and a variety set of dumbbell weights ranging from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.

Having a dumbbell setup plan at home gives you a lot of versatility than at the gym. One for instance is the time involved in setup. Once you have everything in place it's there for you to use and there is no reason not to get your workout moving at the prescribed time.

Knowing that this will be your dumbell workout routine that will be geared to your liking you will need to have a focus on a full body workout. You need to understand that a full body workout is needed for any type of plan that you create in order to avoid injuries and keeping your muscles evenly balanced.

A lot of people do not understand this concept of having a full body workout in order to avoid injuries to your muscles. If you concentrate on one part of your body to build and neglect the other part you become accident prone to pulled muscles than most people.

To elaborate on that concept just for a bit will help clear the issue on this subject. Our muscle groups are segregated into two categories. Those categories being agonist and antagonist type muscles. An example list of these type muscles are biceps and triceps, quadriceps and hamstrings and lastly the back and abdominal muscles.

These muscle groups need to stay in balance congruently in order to alleviate muscle injuries. Muscle injuries for the most part occur because of compensation. This compensation happens because when one set of muscles have been concentrated on and become bulkier and stronger than the other muscle groups compensation the weaker muscle groups happens and then strains happen more frequently.

Having a full body workout eliminates concentration on a particular muscle group and even better than that a free weight routine such as a dumbbell workout routine is the optimum type of plan to work with. Using free weights forces your core muscles to be maximized throughout your workout routine and insures muscle balancing throughout the categories previously defined.

Having a full body workout does not mean working out the full body for every workout either. Planning out how many sessions a week for your dumbell workout routine will determine how much time you spend in your plan.

The optimum workout routine per week is 3 to 4 days weekly alternating between the upper and lower body muscles.

This is the ideal situation and for good reason. If you can do 4 days a week that will allow you 2 days upper muscles and 2 days lower muscles. Given enough rest between the upper and lower muscle group is important for your strength and growth.

The amount of weights that you use is not as important as the number of repetitions that you intend to do. Increasing the reps is a lot more beneficial for your muscle strength than increasing weights because it allows more toning than bulking.

To take this up a notch, you can use an abdominal core workout routine between sets. Realizing that you are concentrating on your muscle group for the day having an abs/core workout between sets will round out your routine and you will have completed a bonafide full body workout at the end of your routine.

If you do put in this type of workout you will use your time wisely in your workout and you will feel good about yourself because of that accomplishment. Sure you'll feel tired in the end but that's the indication of growth and self esteem within yourself. You know you've done something good for yourself and will make you a better person because of it.
