Soon Everybody Will Use Voip Adsl Phone

by Alene Cusimano
Those who use VOIP ADSL Phone services regularly often wonder why other people bother to use a conventional land line at all. In their eyes, the telephone is almost obsolete. There must be a reason, though, because at least as many people make expensive overseas calls from a telephone rather than over the internet.

The fact that Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) for overseas calling first became popular amongst young overseas travelers may explain why these ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)phone services are still considered inferior by so many people. A VOIP call from a distant 3rd world country can leave something to be desired!

Let's take the example of a young woman backpacking through SE Asia. Somewhere in Cambodia, she gets homesick and wants to hear her mother's voice. She goes to the nearest internet cafe and makes a Skype call. The trouble is, half a dozen others are doing the same thing over an antiquated system with limited bandwidth. Her VOIP ADSL Phone call can't possibly be all that it can be under such circumstances.

A conversation from one of these connections may end up worse than no conversation at all as each party waits several seconds for their voice to fight its way through the overcrowded internet cafe's outdated system. The frustrated family might be grateful to have heard from their beloved son, but they're not going to count on the internet for an important overseas business call.

Contrast that with your own private connection at home. You can call anybody, anywhere at their home or place of business and hold conversations for hours. If they, too are on an internet connection, they will know you are, but if they are not, they may assume you are calling from your home phone.

Little by little, though, VOIP ADSL Phone services are being used more frequently and it is likely that as the word gets out, people will dispense with their direct phone services altogether and do all their communicating over the internet. In the meantime, no matter how bad a line is from a village in Cambodia, it's nice to be able to call home when you're so far away!
